I was wondering if anyone has used 3f for the 43 Spanish. I know the 3 F grain load would be less and was thinking of using corn meal to make up the difference of the volume level for bullet compression of the load.
In the Croft Barker book he suggest using corn meal with smokeless powder.
Thanks

I like to use Cream of Wheat for fill in a few cartridges, but I generally use Dacron fiber for most these days.
I thought I had some data on using BP in the 43 Spanish, but I can't find it. I only have data on using 2400 as the powder for this cartridge.
So you have this posted where the BP cartridge gurus congregate.

3f is going to be a high pressure deal in that cartridge, doable but a past recoil pad or some sort of slipon will be your friend. When loading those bottlenecked cartridges with bp you need to keep the base of the bullet in the neck and not let any of its base stick into the case below the neck. So that also limits what you can do with fillers. So basically just fill the case till the powder reaches the bottom of the neck set a wad and then the bullet it and the wad are in firm contact with the powder.
Best thing would be to find some Goex 2f, or Cartridge, 1f will probably work very well, if you go with the European powders you'll want to be with Swiss 1.5f, or Shuetzen 1f.
