TG;

The '92 is a very strong action, you can run pressures of at least 2x the pistol loads.

.32 Mag. loads for cast bullets would be a good starting place.

You need to slug the barrel and find the groove diameter, .001-.002" over the groove diameter will likely be necessary for accuracy.

A gas check bullet will be needed for velocities over about 1400fps.

There are plenty of good lubes, I have some White Label ,red with caranuba and it is as good as any other and 1/4 the price, Lar 45 makes it, he has a site.

Lee has a nice 311-93- 1R mold, but it is plain base, so will be limited in velocity.

The Lee C309-113-F would be a fine bullet if the barrel is small enough, has a flat nose and a gas check and is famous for accuracy.

My mold in that bullet drops wws at .311 and I could easily make you a simple reamer to increase the diameter to .315 or more. I have reamed several of my molds and sent reamers to several other people to correct small and out of round molds, not a real problem.

Also, a proper sizing die would not be a problem.

It would use regular .30 gas checks.

Let me know what the barrel is and we shall proceed from there.

Don

Here is a pic of this old rifle.

Gene, I have some load data in a TC Contender loadbook. It is for Contender only and says it is about 2x the pressure of revolver loads. Don't know if these would be appropriate or not. Contenders in .32-20 are .308 groove diameter. Data is for 90 grain lead and 90 grain lead wadcutter bullets. RD

Gene;

I posted yesterday, but it disappeared.

Yes, use a soft lead sinker, put oil or light grease on it and use a wood dowle to drive it through the barrel.

The biggest measurement it what you go by.

The Lee manual has 3 pages of loads , 2 generic, 1 for '92's.

AA1680, AA#9, 2400, 4227, all are good powders.

Gene, The Contender Loads for cast bullets are as follows: (Remember this is an old Contender Load Book) Do not use these in other guns!!!!!

Accurate #2   2.6 Grains      90 Grain Lead      833 FPS

                      2.9 Grains      90 Grain Lead      925 FPS

                      2.3 Grains       90 Gr. Lead WC   765 FPS

                      2.5 Grains       90 Gr. Lead WC   850 FPS

Accurate #5   3.6 Grains       90 Grain Lead      833 FPS

                      4.0 Grains        90 Grain Lead     925 FPS

There are also Jacketed Loads but none with Flat Point Bullets. I'll include that data if you wish. RD

Gene;

I have some loads, but most are for pistol, not rifle.

2400, 4227, AA 1680, even H110 are useful with a 115gr bullet.

You can use any jacketed load with a cast bullet of the same weight.

The cast bullet will give higher velocity and lower pressures than the jacketed bullet, with the same powder and weight, due to the lower resistance of the cast bullet than the jacketed bullet.

Go to handloads site and check them out.

Don

.32-20 is not very common, I can find very little on it, especially in .92 rifle loads.

Most is for pistols and cowboy loads.

I have this data;

100gr cast gc , AA#9, 8.5gr, 1400fps.

AA 1680/ WC 680, 15gr, 1600fps.

115gr casr gc,

2499, 11gr, 1680fps.

4227, 14gr, 1860fps.

AA 1680, 14gr, 1550fps.

:cool:

Gene;

4227 is one of the best for cast loads, 4198 for heavier bullets, 2400 for about the same as 4227 and Herco and Unique/ Universal for the pop gun loads.

A load a friend uses with cast bullets is to measure the case to the base of the neck, take 40% of that volume and use that volume of Blue Dot.

He claims it works for .222 to .458 mag.

Watch your mail starting Monday.

Don

I loaded me some with 10 grains of IMR4227 and virgin Win brass..Shoots accurate,extracts easy...just one problem..It is pushing primers out of the pocket enough to bother me:confused:My dies are set right..I am not sure what is up..I am way under a heavy pressure load:confused:

Timber, Checked the headspace? (probably more aptly called rimspace on a rimmed cartridge) Maybe they aren't at all supprted by the bolt face and are popping out. RD
