I have a drop tube, and I guess it does exactly what it's supposed to do?  But I've always had problems getting 65+ grains of FFg to fit into a .45-70Gov't case with enough room for the fiberwad plus bullet.

What is everyone else using?

I don't use a drop tube when pouring 65 grs of 2 from the lyman 55, but when I got to dumping 70 of cartridge or 2f express I use 12 inch tube on the bottom of the measure.

The flaring die in the Lyman M die set I have is just right to seat the .030 wad and compress the powder for the 535 postell bullet.

If you are having trouble with the 65+ grains, use a compression die/plug to compress your powder charge before using a fiber wad.  Or better yet, use a veggie card wad of .060 or .030 as this may solve your problem.

BTW - I forgot to comment about length of drop tube.

I use a 3/8th ridged copper tub I got from an Air Conditioning Company here in town.  I have two that I use and have not found much differance in using either one.  Both have a brass funnel that has been JB welded on.  One drop tube is 28" and the other is 32" and when I drop my powder I count the seconds away... usually 3 to 4 seconds on a slow slow pour.

Again like I say I have not noticed a differance in compaction of the bp... others I know found a cheap electric shaver at Salvation Army.  Place loading tray on metal pan and place shaver on pan as well.  The vibration caused by the shaver settles the powder.  Are they getting consistant settling of their powder charge... I don't know.

I'm not so uppity like some... corse I'm not in this for period correctness or NRA BPCR Matches either.. I shoot and reload BPCR strictly for my own pleasure.

I've been using 1/4" stainless tubing, with a plastic funnel on a stand.Mine is about 18". Made this one last year.
So I wouldn't bridge the powder,a stainless set collar is on the tube.About 1/4"
from the end.Been working good.
Made some 35gr 3F BP GOEX,255gr unsized (molded them about 2 months ago),
with homemade lube.Made very few with 40gr of BP.
Fired a bunch last Wednesday.Got the power.
