I'm shooting a CVA Bolt Mag. capable of shooting 150 gr. pellits.  My game is Whitetail.  I could be shooting anywhere from 30 to 200 yards.  What do you guys recommend for sabots?

Bill

Anything but the two petal type!  They don't seperate from projectile quick enough and affect accuracy.  You may have to go thru quite a few before you find the right one.

It took me a lot of smoke before I found the right one!

The best bullet i have found for my Encore and Omega Muzzleloader is the Hornady 250 gr SST with American Pioneer Powder. This load group three shot touching at 100 yards.

I tried the Power Belts HP's and Aerotips  in a number of muzzleloaders and their accuracy is no where close to the Hornady SST .

I hope I don't regret that purchase.  But I think I might still have some Hornedy sabots left from before, they aren't SST I think they are XTP soft tip and hollow points.

Most effective and accurate foodstuffs for my White 97 inline 50 cal. muzzleloader was 140 gr. Pyrodex "P" (pistol) and 250 gr. T/C Shockwave sabots with no lube.  This gave me 3 shot 1 inch groups at 100 yards if I did some cleaning between shots (10 passes with a brush followed by 10 passes with a patch - little or no solvent).

The TC Shock Wave's are the same as the Hornady SST . Hornady makes these bullets for TC and put a Yellow tip in them and Hornady uses the Red Tip , same bullets except the Hornady name is cheaper. I quess TC marks them up to pay Hornady for  producing them. I also use Pyro P in my White's Muzzleloader , except i use the White big bore cast bullets.

Bea - I tried White's cast lead bullets but they just wouldn't shoot as accurately as the T/C's.  Didn't know that about the T/C' Shockwaves being the same as Hornadys.  Might have to try the cheaper alternative once I run out of my stockpile.

I shot one deer last year at about 75 yards with the shockwaves and it was a classic bang-flop.  Bullet entered the right shoulder high, went through it, the spine, through the opposite shoulder and out.  Only thing I recovered were a few pieces of copper.

Powerbelt hollow points very accurit on paper with 100 gr pyrodex pellits. Haven't actually shot anything but paper yet. I finally seen 2 (probably fawns) Thursday evening. They crossed the road onto the field I'm hunting about 125 to 150 yrds away. Before they could get to where I had a clear shot something spooked them and they left the field. You would hardly think it was deer season. There has been very little shooting. We've had a little snow and that has mudded things up a little again. I'm going to try getting out to my blind again tomorrow. If I can't I'll probably call it quits for the year.
