Who has some BP loading data for 8mm Mauser ammo that can be shoot in the 1888 Commision rifle, I don't remember if they are the S or J bores, but I plan on using cast bullets, so that may not be that critical.
If there data for using the BP subsitutes?

8x57 has always been smokeless, was never a BP cartridge. Rifles that have been converted to fire "S" ammunition will have an "S" stamp over the chamber. Still a .318 bore, but the throat was relieved. Not many straight 1888 rifles out there, to my knowledge. Most that were imported are either M1888/05s or M1888/14s. Not a sure sign, but most anything that was accepted into the German Army ( and converted to "S") will take Mauser strippers, not the originnal Mannlicher clips.

In the early 90s Southern Ohio Guns got a large shipment of the original 1888 Mausers that still had the water jackets on them. Nor sure how fast they sold or where they went to, but that is an interesting rifle due to current circumstance.
Your are right about this round being a smokeless powder cartridge, I am have been thing of the 1871 Mauser.
So maybe we could shoot 88 with modern powder if we can find it.

I do, mine's an 88/14. I've used SR-4759 in the past, now most of my cast loads are A2400.

jerry this is where reduced loads of 4895 come in.
start with 25 grs should be round 30-35k especially with cast.
g/c would be best i think.
if you get some vertical stringing use a tuft of dacron and 24 to start. going up to about 29 or 28 with a filler should be around 40-k.
