Gents

I need some help.

I decided to get a new single stage press.:troll:

Now I narrowed it down to the following, Lyman Crusher ll and the Rock Chucker.

Pricing is about the same in these parts ot the world. I must say im leaning toward the Crusher. Its got a bigger opening(more than 4") and more importantly, its got three holes not slots to secure it to the bench.

My question now, the two slots thats used to secure the Rock Chucker to the bench, would it be as sturdy as the Crusher? or shouldnt I worry about it.

I know most of you got Rock Chuckers, so id like your opinion.

All the best

I've never had any experience with the Crusher but I've got 30 years with the RCBS (Rock Chuck Bullet Swaging) Rock Chucker. I've never had a problem with it and RCBS has a very large accessary line. That is one of the reasons I went with RCBS. Both are good presses, I don't think you will go wrong with either one. The 2 slots have worked fine for me. When I resize I always put my left hand on top of the press, habit I guess, but it helps balance me out against my right hand/arm as I complete a stroke. I've never experienced it working loose.

The Lyman should be a good press but if i had a choice i would purchase the RCBS. if i was on a tight budget the difference in price might make my dicision.

I haven't had any problems with my RockChucker trying to leave the bench.   That baby's solid as a rock...

Either of those presses should serve you well...

My RCBS has the 2 holes and it rocks quite a bit, even with large washers and very tight bolts.

The Lee Classic has the superior 3 bolt mounting, a very long stroke and will even load .50 BMG, price is about $65 in US.

The new Lee Classic turret press is also capable of loading .50 BMG and is about $80, also has the 3 bolt mounting and auto indexing, the demo video on Lee's site shows loading 250 per hour, with practice.

I do not need a turret press, but after watching the Lee video, I do WANT one.

Don

I have the Lyman crusher II and big hands and short fingers so I like the larger opening, the only problem ( if you even think its a problem) is that you can't use anything except standered dies, meaning you can't use a shotgun die or add the lock system that hornday has or add a turet like the rock chucker. To me this makes no difference since I have presses for shotgun snd dont use the other stuff. I beleive either press will work just fine

I have used my RCBS Rockchucker for over 30 years without a problem. If I were to invest in another single stage press I would go for the Redding Ultra-Mag. It's an open frame "C" type press, but the compound leverage system is attached to the top of the press so any springing forces are cancelled out. This isn't a cheap press but it's a good one.  Bill T.

Go with the RCBS--you can always use a steel plate under the press to distribute the pressure if that is a concern:thumbs:
