Another Reloading manual you should have on your bench is the Swift manual. This manual is right up there with the Nosler.:thumbs:

Nosler reloading manuals are the perverbial "bible", as far as I'm concerned.  I use Nosler bullets almost exclusively for my big game hunting needs, so it only make sense to stick with their data suggestions.  >>  klallen

Fella's;

Whereas the Nosler books are on my bench, they are third string.  Two reasons.  First, all the data is derived from test barrels, not real world guns.  Second, I don't use Nosler bullets.  They are a check manual for me, a useful tool but not an essential item.

The first string on my bench are the current Speer & Hornady books.  Both of these use actual guns for their data aquisition.  Speer tends to push the envelope, Hornady tends to be conservative.  Using the two of them it's easy to get a pretty good idea of what a cartridge & loads gonna do in the real world.  The fact that they rarely use the same test gun is also a plus in my estimation.  Going back to older editions than the current one's is useful also.  Look at the test guns before comparing the differences in load data.  There is just a ton of information available if you know what you're looking at.

Hey CB..I agree on the two volume set by Hornady.I have them on my shelf,along with Hodgdon number 27,Sierras last two  binders, and Richard Lee`s book,AA`s and Winchesters freebie data pamphlets..   I need to get a Speer manual but I shoot very little of their bullets.The only ones I have are some 130 grain .277`s
Speer has been a long term name in the trade though.They must make good stuff..:thumbs:

Timber;

If you want to put one helluva bullet in Scout's .243 for deer, use the Speer 90 grain spitzer.  Of course, that's conditional upon it's being accurate in his gun, but nonetheless, it's done great by me on both whitetails & mulies.

I'd start with with something around 42 grains of RL19, Winchester brass, CCI primers & seat .010" off the lands.  I'd expect to see about 2700 muzzle, give-or-take, from that little compact of his.

I would have to rate the Nosler Manual in the top 3. Their bullets have been tops for years.  Nosler makes a quality product.   Bill T.

I have them all from #1 thru #5 and even the autographed one of the #5 great manuals but don't just limit yourself to Nosler.

timberghozt, does it have reloading data on the .204? this cartridge has been out for 2yrs now and it's still not in any of the manuals! but I've downloaded so much data from the bullet and powder companies that by the time they get a manual out I won't need it!

I see Hodgdon's got .204 data in their 2006 manual.  They'd probably be the only one to have .204 stuff as their manual's an annual print.  You probably already have the data but here 'tis anyway.  Later.  >>  klallen

well I was waiting until someone else would say it but the Best Reloading books out there is the Load Notes series of books and the 2nd is the Load Data books both have loads that are from Test Barrels and rifles. and they get there data from the Manufacturers of the powder, Bullets ,or both.

I have been using them for the past 8 years and have found then to be spot on .

this is only My Opinion and please don't flame me for it .
