I added the Lee Challenger press to my bench a couple of weeks ago, and was floored by how much easier and pleasant it is to load up rifle cartridges on it instead of the Dillon. Dont have to worry about which stage each load is on, whether or not there is equal pressure all the way around the shell plate, all my rounds come out to the exact same OAL, just more fun now. The Dillon is still doing a couple hundred handgun rounds at a sitting every couple weeks or so, couldn't live without it now.

Started out in 1964 with an old Bair C press. Worked with it till RCBS released the Rockchucker. Then about 15 years ago I added a Bonanza [Now Forster] Co-Ax. This is the best press ever made, IMHO. Regards, Eagleye.

I use a rockchucker for the heavy stuff like resizing and the LEE $18 press for assembly because its more open access.  I just purchased my second Lee $18 for priming so i can leave it setup.  I may go with one more for decapping for the $18 price tag you just can't beat it.  I'm dying to try my Lee priming setup i just purchased too its for the press and primes on the down stroke of the handle rather than the up stroke of the RCBS press.  I used the single feed setup first then i purchased the auto feed system.  Lee has a lot of great products besides their affordable dies.  The quick LEE resizing setup can't be beat too it sure has made my life easier when i did my 308nato stuff.(1,000rds to resize)                    BigBill

BTW;  I lube my press rams with moly too no friction and wear makes sense to me!!!!

I have one Rockchucker, one A2, two Dillon 1050's and one Bonanza co-ax.  Each has it's good and bad points, and I would not be without any of them.

I load 99% pistol, so a dillon 550 works fine for me.

I got the Lee press my dad bought a few months ago at the gunshow.I have been resizing 40 smith and wesson cases for him with it.We made a bunch of 45/70 cartridges with it too.I like it .It is not as strong as his RCBS but it does good with pistol ammunition.

I use a Forester Co-ax.

Been using my friends Ammo Master to reload the NE cases. Now that I am relocating, I guess I will have to buy one. It is the only press I know of with a ram stroke long enough.

I started out with a Lee Hand press, but did not like the amount of flex, nor the misalignment of the ram relative to the die. But it is great for depriming. The hollow ram efficiently gobbles up spent primers/debris (that's important when you do most of your reloading from the comfort of an easy chair in the living room).

I looked long and hard at the Lyman Accupress (?) convertible hand/bench press. It appears better made than the Lee, but the handle has to be completely removed and reversed to convert from hand to bench mounted use.

Then I found the Huntington Compac hand press. It has dual opposing handles that provide more leverage than the Lee, while balancing each other to prevent misalignment of the ram/die. It is stronger, more rigid, and more accurate than the Lee, but is actually smaller (in size, not capacity). Plus, I mounted a 4" circle of wood to the bottom of it to use as a stand so it can stand up by itself if I need both hands for something else for a minute.  Also, since the dual handles work against each other, it does not need to be clamped to a bench/table top.  That works great for me, since the wife frowns on clamping anything to her kitchen table, where I do all the steps that are not done from my easy chair.  The dual guide rods on the compac make setting a bullet atop the case a little touchy, but with practice it is now second nature. This press really shines with a windowed seater die (like the rcbs comp seaters).  It also has a built in primer seating punch, but I've never used it. The press is incredibly strong, and has ample leverage for all but the most radical caseforming duties.

i got into reloading by accident, as a guy on a forum I don't go to anymore up and decided I needed to get into reloading, and sent me an old RCBS Jr press. Then others started getting involved, and I ended up with a motely collection of stuff that works very very well.  I cannot complain one bit, and it was incredible nice of people to send the stuff they had extra to me, getting me into this fun and productive hobby a couple of years ago.

I may upgrade to a newer RCBS press someday, and when I do, i will donate this press again, to another new reloader, to keep the cycle going.

Thanks for the welcome! I've lurked for a long time, but just joined to add my $0.02.

My setup would be perfect for loading at the range, or deer camp, etc., and it works really well for me, the way I prefer to do things at home.  But it is not for everyone. By all means, if you have a nice, air conditioned room with a bench, you may well be happier with a bench mounted press.  But if that is not an option, or you prefer not to go off to your own corner of the castle to do things, the Compac is an excellent option, and a press that not a lot of people are familiar with.

I gave an RCBS press that I don't use to a local fellow last year. My only requirment for giving it was that he pass it on to someone else when he upgraded.

Fella's;

I started on an RCBS Jr. several decades ago.  Now I'm running an RCBS Rockchucker and a Dillon RL550B.

If I could post pictures here, I'd throw up one or two of my reloading bench.  But so far, all attempts to post a pic here have failed.  You can find 'em at BSB though if you're interested.

Lee C press, currently loading .204 ruger, as soon as I get a load i'm happy with i'll get some .223 dies. I figure the lee will work for a very long time on those small cases.

I have been reloading for over 40 years so I have an assortment. Two Dillon 1050's, one for pistol and one for rifle. The pistol 1050 is just a regular 1050, the rifle one is a Super 1050. One RCBS rockchucker, one RCBS A-4,one Forster co-ax (my favorite), and one RCBS for 50 caliber. The co-ax is by far my favorite press for any cartridge that I can fit into it.
