Dad and I got our Dillon 550 set up and loading 38's the only problem that we have is the primer feed, it was not feeding them, but we got that fixed then the primer were flipping on their side or flipping them over.  I had to go home (wife was putting dinner on the table).  We took everything apart and cleaned it and we are not sure what to do next.  Is this a common problem with the press?

I have never experienced a problem such as what you are describing.....sorry, can't help any.  Best I can advise is to call Dillon and ask for a tech.  That's what they are there for.....good luck!

Might be a silly question, but do you have the follower in the tube behind the primers? Sounds like the feed pressure isn't quite right. Also, maybe a dirty feed tube?

Glad you got it solved. Was it the primer unit alignment?

If I don't use the primer follower on my two 550s, this problems happens now and then. The best thing is to talk to Dillon about the problem. You may have corrected or it may have just gone away for now.

I had a 450 and then a 550 in the mid 80s before the low primer alarm and all of those things came out, I used a piece of coat hanger for a follower, the end was rounded so as to not cause dangerous problems.

NOW THAT IS A SET UP!!!
We got the primer feeding issues fixed by getting the right parts.  We have not used the press in over a year, dad has been sick now that he has a new valve in his heart he is ready and rearing to go!

Wait a minute,  you mean someone out there has more presses than I do? Mine are Red,Red,Black and Blue.   Looks like 45-70 cartridges on the end of the table, one of my favorites. I did create a chamber ring(no harm done) on my Browning 1885 Tradition Hunter. I was using dacron and now will stay away from it. This rif;le shoots cast pretty good. You will enjoy the flick I will send you, click on the larger JPG and see the movie!

I used to another Dillon 550 and a Herter Super Swage press that was before I retired and moved out here into the country. If you think you know where BFE is, I live 20 miles further away.

In my little workshop, I cast my own bullets, the 45-70s have TLC460-350-RF bullets from Ranch Dog molds. http://www.ranchdogmolds.com/ I shoot a Marlin 1895 and a T/C Contender in 45-70. I am lucky enough to have a 100 yard range in my backyard. From the kitchen back door to the backstop is 147 yards. Look out Mr G' Hog and his friend Mr. Coyote.

Currently I am putting up a small foundry building, for smelting lead with my turkery fryer and HF dutch oven, as well as my high temp smelter for casting bronze and aluminum. I live in the hills of Eastern Ohio and flat land is not an option here, so I am putting up a stilt building for my foundry. Attached is a picture of how far it has gotten in the last 5 days, the legs are at least 3 feet under the surface and have 2 bags of concrete around each of the 5 legs. I used to do this work on my concrete driveway, so rainy days stopped me, as well as winter.
