I have the 1010 RCBS balance beam and the Pact Digital. I use the digital for weighing bullets and brass but can't make myself change from balance beam for weighing powder charges. I guess i am a hold over from the early days. What do you guys prefer for your loading in scales?

When I first started reloading a friend let me use his RCBS balance beam scale.   Soon after that I bought a Pact digital.   I like the digital a lot better.

I have a Lyman balance beam that I've had for over 30 years. I just bought their new 1200 DPS Digital Powder Dispenser last year, and I really like it a lot. Nice and accurate, and straightfoward and easy to use.  billt

I have two Balance Beam scales and one Digital. I use the digital for brass and bullets, but still prefer my RCBS [Ohaus] 304 or the 10-10 for powders dispensing. I find the 304 the fastest of all for weighing powder., and it is as easy to use as anything I have owned. Fairly pricey, but worth every penny. Regards, Eagleye.

I prefer a scale that says I am 15 lbs lighter then I am:troll: ! I have 2 lyman scales and scales weights to check them.

I like to weigh every charge I use in my rifles and I set my powder measure to throw slightly short of the weight I want and then top up using a dribbler.

When i have tried to use this approach with a digital scale,I find I get very inconsistant results. I have proved this by re weighing the powder a second time and getting a different result to the first...I think its down to the programing the digitals have to stop their zero drifting...

So for now, I am sticking with my RCBS 505's untill I can find something either digital or beam balance which is more accurate/consistant at a reasonable price...

regards,

Pete

I just got a little 5-10 scale in immaculate shape free from a kid whose grandad used to reload. The grand dad passed away and they are cleaning out the house. He have me a RCBS uniflow with large and small rotors and the scale along with 357 mag dies and some misc stuff.Very cool I thought rather than tossing it in the clean out garbage pile..

Timberghozt,

I think you dropped very lucky with that scale! In fact I have been keeping an eye out for a used  5-0-10's myself, but we just don't get that much secondhand reloading kit over here...

Although RCBS say they are only accurate to a 1/10th  of a grain which is the same as my 5-0-5, or most other reloading scales, I can't help thinking they look a much better built item...

I might just spring for a 10-0-10, but I really don't need the extra capacity of those..

regards,

Pete

For years and years it was my Lyman 505 balance beam......until last year.

I bought the Lyman 1200DPS digital, mainly for IMR powders, but it has made life a whole lot easier, and need I say, consistent.
Double checking the digital with the old scale nets me the same weights.

The only thing that ruffled my feathers was that shortly after getting the DPS, Lyman came out with the DPS 2, which has computer transference capability....damn!

I had bought the Lyman Autoscale just 2 mos. before they relased the DPS (my usual luck)....I ended giving that one to a close friend before buying the DPS. The autoscale was terrible and extremely touchy.
My buddy likes it, but he's not half as fussy as I am.

I've never owned the PACT, but from what experience I've had with the Lyman DPS, I'm sticking with it......

Take care,
Bob
