I have tried Sierra 40 grain .224 Blitz bullets with both BLC2 and Varget.I can`t get these bastards to group less than .80" inch CTC with anything I`ve tried.I`ve tried lenghthening oal, different brass and playing the cartridge for concentricity.I have come to the conclusion,I`m finished trying.I like Sierra bullets but their Blitz bullet..:X

I'm liking the Sierras Gamekings I've been using in my 22s and 270, but I've never tried the Blitz. And I've never gotten really good results using 40gr .224 bullets period. I've tried some different brands and used them in different rifles, but they never give me consistently good groups like the 55gr bullets have. Some of this reloading stuff can sure be frustrating!
Now watch. I'll end up buying a box of Blitz 40gr out of curiosity and they'll be the best thing I ever shot. LOL

Handloader,
Seems your rifle does not care for that bullet. Rifles are like a fine woman, give them what they like and life is good, try to make them do what you think they should and life will be filled with many headaches!!!
I have never used the Blitz bullets but I have used the Blitzking bullets(tipped), in fact that is the bullet I use exclusively in my Howa heavy barreled 223. I was goign to rebarrel this rifle because it would not shoot any bullets heavier then 40 gr accurately but when I tried the little Sierra 40 gr Blitzking the rifle started punching groups in the 1/4" range and I just can not bring myself to pull a barrel that shoots this well.
I would prefer using a 50 gr pill but the rifle simply will not shoot them. With anything over 45 gr this little rifle prints groups in the 1 1/4" range. with the 40 gr pills everything is under 1/2 moa and the Blitzkings are better then that so I will keep it and use it for 200 yards gopher hunting, 300 on a calm day is certainly doable with these little pills at 3800 fps.
Good Shooting!!

The 40 gr work great in my 223 Rem's with H335 and in my 22 Hornet with Lil'Gun . I just purchased 500 Hornady 50 Moly V-Max and will let you know how they work in the 223 Rem. I'm not sold on Moly Coated Bullets . I haven't tried the 40 gr Sierra Blitz but the 50 gr Blitz with H335 in the 223 Rem Tikka will group under 1/2 inch group after group.

Fifty,I think you right.This Weatherby just doesn`t like the 40 gr Blitz.I don`t understand why not.It is a 1 in 14 twist, with a 23.5 inch barrel.
It shoots the Hornady VMax 40 gr that I coyote hunt with in the low .300" range rather easily.
Maybe it is just the rifle.I tried both BL(C)2 and Varget with both the Blitz and VMax and Varget won the accuracy groups hands down. The rifle seemed to not like BL(C)2 with either bullet. My only other thought would be to try Win 748 and see what happens.
Bea, You`ll like the VMax on yotes.I`ve never had an exit from the 40 gr VMax on a yote.It knocks em down quick.

Timberghozt,
Give 748 a try but I would suspect with the light bullet you may be get some powder fouling problems. This is a great powder for the 223 but I generally see much better results with the 50 and 55 gr pills over the lighter bullets.
Have you ever tried Rl-10 Tried this one in a customers 223 Rem and it shot very well with the 40 and 45 gr pills. Not the most extreme velocity but very clean burn and very consistant velocities and groups.
Course if Varget is shooting well for you, hard to beat it, extremely temp change resistant. Clean, good velocities, hard to beat in most cases.
Good Shooting!!

Hey Fifty,I`ve never tried any of the Rl powders.I think I am going to try some RL 15 in a 308Win.Just out of curiosity and see what happens from a 20 inch barrel and a 165 Hornady SST.
I`ve never used W748 but hear lots of good praises about it in the .223 Rem cases.

The best light bullet I've used is the speer 45 grain 'hornet' bullet. 1023, I believe. Spitzer.
Thin jacket, soft point, up to 250 yards in my .223, great on crows.
Same hole at 100 yards.
They used to be way less than $5 a box not that many years ago, now they're almost $10 a box. Lowest BC in the catalog until a few years back.

Hey caz.I think I know which bullet you are talking about.I have seen them in the catalog I order from but have never tried them...What kind of velocity are you getting with them?

I try to keep them around 3300, the accuracy range of the bullet is ok in my rifle, the twist is 1:14, if you got a savage, your best bet is 55 grains and over.
They were just awesome in my hornet at 2650, man I miss that rifle.
I wanted another .22 hornet, but couldn't find an accurate one to replace the one I had. I should have bought a CZ lux.
There's a sweet spot with those bulllets at 2650, and another at 3300.
At hornet velocities they explode birds and decapitate groundhogs. At .223 velocities they drill a precision hole and leave a 15 yard trail of entrails past the target.

The .223 is a very accurate round.
Trying to eek out more velocity out of her is just going to be counter-productive.
I use H4198, but only try to get 3300 out of her, I know more is easy, but the terminal effects at short ranges (150 yards and less.) begin to get less dramatic.
