It looks much like a .30-06 AI but uses a .323 dia bullet and has a sharper shoulder. My Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversions says it made by taper expanding the neck to .330" and full length sizing in a Gibbs die. Square the mouth, chamfer and fireform in a Gibbs chamber. I think it was a collaboration between Ackley and Gibbs and although the case only gains 5.44gr in capacity there's about a 500fps gain in velocity using a 170gr bullet.

It's "almost" identical to the 8mm/06 Springfield Improved made by PO Ackley. There's only about 1/2 degree difference in the shoulder angle and .11" difference in the length to the shoulder. Both cases are the same length and the case body taper is so slight I don't think it can be seen with the naked eye. I doubt you could tell the difference between cases without taking a mic to them.

Sounds like a good solution to a nonproblem.

Well, in that case(no pun intended), I'd start with loads listed for the 8mm-06 and work toward the goal that you are intending to get with this cartridge.

+1 for the solution to a non-problem.

Scott (why did you get that cartridge?) B

:thumbs:ditto on the 8-06 data. I load a 8-06 k.kale w/29" barrel. It's pushing a 180gr nosler /med load at 2850 using Imr 4064 pwdr. groups at 3 shots in 1.5" at 150 yds. Good enough I think for hogs here in norcal. Dave:cool:

Giggs was a visionary who wanted to use 30.06 cases to what he felt was there full potential. In this case they are fire formed to the chamber size to hold more powder and neck sized to accommodate the larger 8mm bullet.  Because of the collaboration between Bruno @ Husky This makes a great rifle with no shortage of brass.
