...chronograph, for consistant good results, both pistol and rifle? I think I shoud probably cut that wire to make it work right, and break out the ol' Chrony F-1 again.

For most of my rifles I stretch it out as far as my cord will reach. Pistols are usually 10 feet or so. I havent tried it with my .50 yet but I am guessing 50 yards or more with it.

If your chronograph is a good one, it will give you accurate readings all the way to the muzzle....as long as you protect it from the blast.  And I've never been brave enough to put my hard earned cash all the way out to 1K, but I'm sure if the projectile passed over the screen...it would give a consistent reading.

What's happening to your chronograph that it needs to be 'cut'?

IT'S ALIVE!  Well, OK, never died...  I am the horrible person who shot his own Chrony the FIRST flippin' time I used it. Got six rounds off, and BLAMMO, off goes the skyscreen flying , I'd pegged a wire. Shooting without a target, and there I was. Lookin' stupid. Chrony the company took pity, and sent some more wires, all the wrong length. I figured, well, at the time I was only loading 9mm, and I loaded "warm" but not over max, so why bother...and the Chrony went into the box, and sat. And like Pooh, it sat and sat, and sat some more. For almost 2 years it sat, until tonight. And I pulled out a long wire, used a cheap Wal Mart dyke and a file, and five minutes later, (plus a new battery), IT IS ALIVE!!!

The really odd thing is, the tripod I use for my photography was actually purchased to use with the Chrony, not a camera.

Now, do I tempt fate enough to take the Chrony and reloads to the range tomorrow?????? Ooooooh, I LOVE tempting Fate.....

I was trying to shoot over my chrony from prone sling supported. Let my position get to low and skipped an 80 grainer off the top.

My Master Chrony works fine at 10' with full power .375 Ultra Mag loads.

I usually set my chrony up at 12' just to be safe.
