The Hornaday one looks good and has a plus or minus scale to see how much your under or over
The Dillon scale looks real decent too
Both of these are like $50.00

| i prefer my rcbs over my lyman simply because it is graduated differently.i have no idea what the dillon is like

| i'v ve used RCBS and lee. both are very accurate but i found the RCBS to be more user-friendly.

I use a Redding #2 Scale now.
You can look at the scale on the left side and see how many tenths plus or minus (within 5 tenths either direction) you are like the Hornady.
I started with a Lee Scale. It was surprisingly accurate, but the lack of damping meant I spent a lot of time waiting on it.
I then moved to an RCBS Rangemaster 750 digital. It solved my damping problem, but it had a bad habit of drifting by a few tenths after it had been on for several minutes, and was very particular about how the pan was placed.
I then moved to the Redding #2 Balance Beam scale. I haven't regretted the decision. It has good damping, and I don't have to worry about it drifting.
I also looked at the RCBS 1010, but there was a rather large cost differential between it and the Redding #2.
If you haven't read them already I've found the reviews on Midway USA do a pretty good job of capturing the pros and cons of most of the scales they sell (my experience reflects most of what I've read there).

me to!! I wonder who makes the scales probably ohaus makes them all.
altho the RCBS caught me of guard as the markings were diferrant than my Redding.

I own and use a hornady balance scale. I am very happy with it. It zeros out quickly and easily. Maintains its zero and has been accurate everytime I checked it with a known weight. Buy it and you will like it.
I also have the Lee scale that came with my press. The Lee is accurate but is hard on the eyes. I keep it as a backup.
I had a Lyman, the composite base model and I have to say it SUCKED in more ways than I can think of. It was inconsistant, it would not maintain zero, and it was so light that it would move all over the bench with the slightest bump. No matter what scale you go with, make sure it is a metal base and not a composite base. It will stay put a whole lot better.

Perhaps you can add some weight to it by glueing lead sheets into the under side of the plastic base?

I have recently bought a Dillon ballance beam scare. Made by Ohaus for Dillon. Very nice unit.

| The Dillion is a nice unit and I currently have the Redding #2. By far, the Redding is the best beam scale I have ever used and I have fooled around with most of them. I guess I am a bit of a throw-back, but I prefer the beam scales over digital. The Redding is so accurate it's unbelievable. Hope this helps....

Keith:you answered my question OHAUS makes the scales.and looking at Dillon the powder measure is a take off of Lee.

| I forgot to add. The Hornady is a POS. . .I tried to use it for years. I think my powder measure was more accurate. After I bought check weights, I was sure it was a POS. My RCBS 5-10 has never done me wrong. The only replacement I would consider is an RCBS 10-10. Not ready to go electric yet. Maybe next year.

I have the RCBS scale and like it, but I also have the PACT powder dispenser and the matching electronic scales. I also have a Lyman beeam balance scale and a small frankfort electronic scale. The RCBS and the PACT are the two most used on my bench.

Until recently I used an RCBS 5-10-5
Now I use the RCBS Loadmaster combo & it's great.
The scales are put away for if the Loadmaster ever goes wrong & for weighing bullets & cases.
