Is one better than another?  Foster, RCBS, Hornaday?   If so why?

Thanx.

I have no experience.

Even though I have had a few stuck cases, I have always managed to get them out without a stuck case remover.

Same for me. When I do stick one though it is always .223 and every now and then I break the expander. Maybe I do need one.....

If you have a Drill bit & Tap in the garage theres no need to buy anything.

Drill out and tap the primer pocket, find a socket that straddles the stuck case yet fits on mouth or rim of  the sizing die, thread in a bolt through square end of the socket with a few washers added and tighten......

Don't know which one is better, but there are a few differences. Hornady and RCBS stuck case removers are store bought versions of the homemade tap/bolt/socket/washer setup that Sprue described. Hornady includes a special "bolt" that lets you use the press ram (if it accepts standard shell holders) to pull the case out.

Forster's and RCBS's 2nd kit helps you extract the expander/decapper, then has a punch you can insert down through the neck to drive the case out of the die. You can also use the other type (homemade or not) to remove the die after the expander/decapper has been safely removed.

All that works for a stuck case that hangs on to its head.  What do you do with a head separation?

I throw mine in to my freezer, the brass and the die have different heat coefficients, so they will separate after maybe a day in the freezer. I am not talking about the freezer that is apart of your frig. I have a nice deep freeze in the basement that gets really cold.

If you don't think it works, just try it.

I've been handloading since 1969, and have always had a stuck case remover on hand.  I have never used one, but I'd rather have one and never need it than need one and not have it.  They are too cheap.

SST,

I like having one around, sort of like know how to do something and never needing to do it, instead of needing to do it and not knowing how to do it.

I do have a RCBS stuck case remover. Tried it once and it;s still in the box waiting for an extreme emergency.
