Hi guys just received this software from Midway USA, well it was real cheap in comparison to other ballistics programs but seemed to have a lot of the ballistic information and loading manuals I was looking for. Also included are many external ballistic calculators including trajectory and Richard Lee's reduced load calculator. You can also track your reloads and their results as well as your firearm collection

Only thing is I just recently read that there might be some problems with the software. One problem was that if you are trying to log your firearms the logs that are generated have a TPS extension that XP doesn't recognize. Another thing was that the program uses a really old version of Adobe to read the on-screen reloading manuals and this feature doesn't work properly under XP and I would assume Vista. Just received this software along with some other things in a recent order and it hasn't been open so I thought I would check here first and if these things are true I'll just send it back. Looking forward to your feedback!

Interesting. I've been running Lee Shooter Version 1.7 on my Windows XP Media Edition machine. I had a lot of data and gun info loaded into it and neglected to save it before I upgraded to Vista (which I have since uninstalled - it didn't work with most of my software and peripherals, so I went back to XP Media).

Point is, that I reloaded (as it were) Lee Shooter and everything is working fine, except for the data I lost during the OS switcheroo. Also, I'm able to open and view all the loading mnuals .pdf files that are integral to the Lee software with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If you know how to associate file extensions with program .exe files, you might want to try re-establishing those associations. Otherwise, you may have an older version of Lee Shooter that isn't compatible with XP.

Thanks!!! maybe this was an older version that I read about. I'm also currently running XP are there any know issues with XP? think I'll call Midway to find out what version of the software this is there's nothing on the package itself indicating what version this is.

There aren't any known issues between XP and "Shooter" that I am aware of or have experienced. It worked just fine for me while I was using it. I'm currently keeping a loading data base in Excel, which is somewhat more tedious to use. I may transfer that data into "Shooter" when I get some spare time, or try to restore the lost "Shooter" data file. I have some software that can do that, provided that it hasn't been totally overwritten.

Good luck with Midway. Hope they resolve things to your satisfaction. I've had good experience with them and product returns.

Yup. All the features of Lee Shooter Version 1.7, which is what I have, work properly on my XP Media Edition machine and Adobe Acrobat Reader Version 8.1.2.

One thing you might try before sending the CD back.  Go on line and see if there is an upgrade by the publisher that is compatible with XP or Vista.  I've personally given up on trying to upgrade my programs to match the latest OS version, I just keep the data in Excel.  (Tried Access, too clumsy, but is sortable every which way.  So is Excel, but it takes more effort.)

Well called Lee the version you have is the newest 1.7 also talked to Midway and the version displayed is 1.5 but the actual version they are selling is 1.7 so I tried it and yep works perfectly, not really a sophisticated program but seem like it's well worth the 12 bucks I paid. Really like the loading manuals although they are a little old still an excellent reference. Say thinking I might have just a few questions for you, could you please check back. Thanks again for all the help!!

I back all of my data up on CD or DVD, and keep hard copies in a notebook on my loading bench.

Remeber when "backing up" meant stomping on the clutch, throwing the gearshift into reverse and looking over your shoulder?

Yes and I remember gasoline for 25 cents a gallon along with reloading costing a penny for a bullet, penny for a primer and penny for powder.

But I also remember Chevy 327 with 4 barrels and a tuned exhaust, now the only thing that see in my Honda Element, expensive gasoline and shooting costing a fortune.
