I know there are many forums for cast bullets, but reloading is a major part of the whole process.

I have been getting into casting Ranch Dog Bullets lately, I have the 30 cal, 44 cal and the 45 cal molds. I have a great deal of Lee, Lyman and RCBS molds also. Som I have are old standards, some are semi custom and some are rare shapes.

For my 340 PD, ,my 586, 357 Max Contender and my 35 Remington, I am using a Lyman 357, 214 gr, SWC, GC mold. This mold came out when the 357 Max revolvers came out. The revolvers are history, but it's a good bullet for the Max, but shoots well in all my 357 weapons.

Right now I am loading 7 TCUs with a 130gr 7mm, Soupcan shaped, GC bullet. Haven't gotten the load right yet, but it is keeping 1.5" groups at 100 yards. I have tried the conventional Lee 130 grain C285-130-R mold, but I have not been impressed with the results, except they kill G' Hogs really well at 50 plus yards.

Thank you, to me casting is just another step in making the perfect cartridge.

jjb2,

I use about 10.5 grains of 2400 behind the 214 gr bullet in 357 Mag. It is not unpleasant to shoot in my 586, but in my 340 PD any hot load is not pleasant to shoot. The PD is only 12 ounces unloaded, this is my main carry pistol for when I have to go to the urban/suburban jungle.

The best way to tell how good this bullet really is, when hunting G' Hogs. This approximates what going thru a human being is like. Last year in WV I took a deer with my 35 Rem and it was a 140 yard shoot, mostly up hill, good result with this bullet. Normally I would agree about using an Elmer Kieth or a Silhouette or even a 158 SWC, but most of my shootin' is hunting varmints, so I like a really heavy hitter.

All of you casters, Grainger is blowing out lead free solder for under $7 a pound, when I order online, I get free shipping,

Contains: 97% Tin, 2% Copper, 0.8% Silver and 0.2% Antimony

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1ZHW2

I bought 50 pounds of this for my alloying of ingots.

When it's gone, it's gone

I started casting for pistol a few years ago and .30 caliber rifle about a year ago. I enjoy the process and the savings.
