I make my own bullet lubes mostly for my Star Sizer. The lubes that I make is for very high speed bullets, at the upper end of the rifle speed range for my rifles and most of my T/C Contenders.
You can make lube out Beeswax and just about any thing that is viscous, you may need to add some shredded ivory soap to get it to thicken.
The NRA formula for Beeswax and Alox is an old time favorite, that does work well.
Here are some of the formulas that I have collected over the last couple of years:
Felix Lube formula
2 Tablespoons mineral oil
1 Tablespoon Castor oil
1 Tablespoon Ivory, or homemade soap (grated)
1 Tablespoon Lanolin
Beeswax - Piece approximately 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" X 1 "
Heat mineral (baby) oil until it starts to smoke.
Add Castor oil, and stir continuously for 1/2 hour.
Sliver the soap, and stir into the mixture a little at a time, until melted.
Add the beeswax before the lanolin, and then when that is melted, reduce or remove the heat and add the lanolin, thus not running any risk of burning or scorching the lanolin.
1 teaspoon of Carnuba wax can be added to give a shiny bore. This can be found on the seal of Makers Mark whiskey, or the red wax on cheese from the supermarket.
Once made, let cool. This can be remelted in a microwave, and poured into the lubricious
California Saeco Green:
2 lbs Beeswax
2 lbs Paraffin
1 lb STP Oil Treatment
No Name
1/3 Beeswax, 1/3 paraffin wax. and 1/3 mineral oil
Old NRA lube formula:
1 part Beeswax
1 part Paraffin
1 part Vaseline
Another No Name
75 % Beeswax
25 % Vaseline (Add more for a softer lube)
Coconut Oil and Beeswax
1 block (3"x3"x1") bees wax
1 tablespoon lanolin
2 tablespoons Lee Liquid Alox
2 oz Cophra (solidified coconut oil)
+ paraffin as a stiffener if needed
"California" Bullet Lube
8oz of melted beeswax
4oz of Safflower Oil (yeah, the cooking kind)
2oz of Hoppes Elite Gun Oil (not bore cleaner)
I have taken this up to 2000fps in several guns with great performance
Another no name
40% beeswax
40% ATF
10% STP
10% Sodium Stearate
Some people use Johnson's Paste Wax, it is a lot of paraffin and a little bit of Carnuba wax.
I will share the secret that I have found that works the best with about any formula that you want to use. Carnuba Wax flakes. It is only mentioned in one or two of these lube formulas.
I use about 2 pounds of Beewswax, 1/4 STP and 8 oz. Carnuba to make my high speed pistol lubes. Melt the Carnumba first, add the STP, then the beeswax. Let this boil, but not steaming for 20 minutes. The pour into what ever you want to use for stick molds. Stick molds are another thread for another day.
Hope this helps or insrpires some one out there,
Jerry

I've made and used Felix's lube, he originally posted the recipe on the old Shooters.com cast bullet board. It works pretty well, but I fopund it a PITA to make, hated melting the soap slivers to get the sodium sterate.
Today, I am lazy, and simply use store bought lube, Lyman Black Moly and Lee Liquid Aox for smokeless, and SPG for BP loads. I've run 2000 FPS with Black Moly and LLA, that's about as fast as I'm going to push my cast bulets anyway.

One of my recipes has made it up to 2900fps with a lino bullet in my 300 RUM. The bullet broke up in flight, but the bore was nice and clean.
Some of my lubes end up going over to Becky's, she makes some really nice bullets, she likes my lubes because they are almost smoke free. Currently she is casting for a couple of local stores, but with a cash investment :) , she will be able to handle more customers.

I ordered a Lee sizer die, there should be Alox bullet lube in the package, but for safety reasons this has been removed .
Strange things happen!

I ordered the die by a German with whom I did and do business very often; he had no Lee dies in stock and ordered mine together with some other stuff in the USA, and got the message, the lube had to be taken out for safety reasons, that is all I know.
I also know, there are places over here who sell Alox lube, but perhaps it has something to do with the way of shipping-plane or by boat, I do not know.
Paul.

This war of terror seems to take many turns that make no sense. So they take stuff out of packages and you have to give things up at the airport.
On ebay they have groups of stuff that comes from the surrendering of possessions at the airport. I found a bulk deal on Executive size Swiss Artmy knives.
But back to lubes. Alox works well with my Ranch Dog bullets, I ahve tried it with some other bullets and it works well on them, below 1,800 fps.

I wanted to use the Alox on the 350 grain bullets for my 12,7x44R rolling block rifle, and I think, velocity will not exeed 1200ft/sec, loading with BP.

You can use synthetic car grease in this application it work as well as Alox.

isnt either of them my idea.the 50/50 is one of the better overall lubes.easy to make and works to over 2000 fps.commercial casters have gone away from it because of shipping problems because it is a bit sticky.not an issue with lubing at home.buying beeswax and alox it will cost a bit under 5 bucks a lb.my favorite lube is johnsons stick wax.i have used it at up to 1800 fps with a pb bullet.it performs better than the commercial hard lubes in my 44 rifle.it is a high pressure lube and should work well at higher velocities but i haven had anything that will shoot any faster.cost is about 6 bucks a lb.my tallow and beeswax lube is a traditional combination.tallow can be had for free and at about 5 bucks a lb for bw a good bp lube can be made for less than 2 bucks a lb.i am gonna try it with some smokeless loads. for inexpensive lube,alox grease and cheap liquid alox;
http://www.lsstuff.com/lube/index.html beeswax;
http://stores.ebay.com/Frostic-Incorporated johnsons stick wax;

I get my beeswax for 2 to 3 dollars a pound, but I do buy a lot at a time. I have a basic recipe for a BP bullet lube, but haven't had as much need for it.
But thanks for sharing that with us.
