| I know of a star luber/sizer around here for 200.00 bucks. It comes with just one 357 die and some lube.I know most star equipment was pretty good stuff but what about finding some other dies?.And it seems a little pricy. What should I be looking for in a sizer and a rough cost for it?I finally got to the point I can cast a pretty decent bullet but I think Im gonna need a lubrisizer.I have molds in a tumble lube style but I also have the regular with lube grooves.Im gonna try the pan lube thing but I think a lubrisizer is in my future. What are good models and brands???I seem to prefer the older equipment...Robin Last edited on 14 November 2008 04:24 AM by Box13

I have heard that the star sizer is supposed to be the creme dea la creme of sizers, and that maybe the case but I know that they are hard to find parts for and what you do find are expensive. Lots of bullets have been sized just fine on 45's, 450's, and RCBS lubrisizer for a hell of a lot less money. As well as having interchangability between Lyman and RCBS.

I have a couple RCBS lubersizers. They work fine but are a little slow. So if you want to increase your output the Star is the way to go IF, you don't mind to spend $35 + for each addtional die alone.
Lymman and RCBS dies do interchange, they are less than half the price of the stars.
I do hope to have a Star one of these days especially when I get my lathe setup. Then I can make my own.
You can watch a Star sizer in action I would think, on youtube.
For the $$ you mention, its the going rate. I wouldn't expect to find one much less unless you get real lucky.

| Well...I still dont have a lube/sizer.I am holding off on the star but would really like to have it if only I could find other die sets and the cost wasnt so high.Anybody use the redding/saeco stuff? It looks to be pretty well made and has good availability of dies and punches but still a pretty big investment in the sizer itself...Robin

Robin, check out the customer reviews posted in Midways customer reviews about Saeco/Redding sizers. Not that good. I haven't used them, so I can't say from my own experience but there has to be something said from the guys that have .

Robin, the Lyman lubrisizer is worth a look, they've been around in one model or another since dirt was new.. Whichever one you decide on, it will be worthwhile to check out a lube heater for the harder (read-higher velocity) lubes.
I'm only familiar with the Lyman heater, which mounts under the lubrisizer.

I never bothered with a heater, just hit the lubrisizer with a heat gun on the lube reservoir. A couple of minutes is all it takes to keep harder lubes flowing.

Has anyone ever used a plumbers heat tape to warm up the lube? I wasn't sure if I could get it wrapped securely enough to not interfere with the mechanism. Im sure I'm going to have to do something this winter.
