the lee auto-prime hand tool - it doesn't get any more user-friendly and/or effective than that.

Before you go out and purchase another...try giving RCBS a call and see if they'll replace it?

+1 on that. They may not make that exact model anymore, but I'd wager they'll replace it with whatever they make currently, and without charge. RCBS stands behind their products 110%, in my experience.
Most other reloading tool makers have similar reputations - I just don't have any personal experience with anyone but RCBS.

I would try to have a chat with RCBS first- if they cannot help, I recommend the bench-mounted RCBS Auto Priming Tool with the Tube feed.
I had/still have a lot of priming tools, from the cheap Lee-surprising good- to the Forster and Sinclair Bench Rest tools, all good stuff, but due to arthritis in my hand I searched another way to do the job and bought the above mentioned one.
It is reliable, fast, very well made to last a life-time if maintained properly and gives a lot of feeling when seating the primer.
Kind regards,
Paul T.

One more call for talking with RCBS about repair/replacement.
Then if needed go with the RCBS universal hand priming tool.
Lee's are alright but they do tend to break the thumb lever on a fairly regular basis.

Hard as needed, but they do break from wear, those thumb levers are just pot metal.
Have a couple or three of em laying around here someplace, have never looked back since getting the RCBS universal. No need to fiddle faddle with shell holders that don't always fit according to what lee says they'll fit, etc.

michman - sounds like RCBS is going to treat you right. that's pretty impressive after that number of years!
a note on the lee-auto prime:
Auto Prime broken lever
The Auto Prime gives its user a good "feel" for primer insertion. You should be able to feel through the lever when the primer is seated in the case. No further pressure on the lever is required. If you press the lever until it contacts the body, it will eventually break. Apply a high viscosity lube (lithium grease, Vaseline, etc.) to the ends of the connecting link before replacing the lever.
