but i cant seem to justify the 300 and 400 dollar price tags of some of the bigger name presses. i checked used and am hard pressed to find anythign in my area, let alone a deal. has anyone used one of these presses? they seem to be reviewed well on midway, but i was curious what else do i need with them? do any of you who use them double disk the powder measure? is it necessary? can i use my lee perfect powder measure? (i've grown quite fond of it, mine is very consistent)
any help is appreciated
also does the bullet feeder actually work? between that and the case feeder i think i can handle watching powder and checking primers and pulling a handle :)

I bought my son one for Christmas. I thought it was a mistake. He had never reloaded. I suggested the Lee Turrent Press. It has an auto-index feature, and I can easily load 3-4 boxes of 45 or 38 per hour.
It was very difficult for me to get working (I've reloaded since 1974). I had one double charge that blew up my Webly. It is currently sitting in the corner, unused. I gave my son my spare (yes, I had 2) Lee Turrent Press, and he really likes it.
I wonder if I'm just a dumbass or if it is indead hard to use. I worked with it for several weeks. I use Lee products almost exclusively.
Midway has a real deal on a Turrent Press combo kit. Be sure to get the combo, it saves a bunch of money, and has Richard Lee's loading book included. The book is GREAT! Read it cover to cover and then jump right in.

Tricky, I've never used a progressive press. I'll probably use a single stage Rockchucker for the rest of my life. It's a pain in the a** when I'm loading a couple hundred rounds for pistol or rifle, but it's the way I like to go.
On the other hand, I know a couple guys who use a Dillon progressive and they cank out thousands of 45ACP rounds every year without problems. Haven't come across anyone who uses a Lee progressive so I don't have info on whether it's good or not.
As far as the Lee Perfect Powder Measure goes I'm glad to hear yours works. I got one when I started reloading. More powder leaked out the sides than went down the drop tube. I sent it back asap and got a Uniflow. Maybe Lee is making them better these days. Not puting down Lee products here by any means, as I still use many of the dies I've had for years now.
Whatever you end up getting here's hoping it works great for ya.

The powder measure that they have now works well. Buying all the upgrade kits allows you to have a really wide variety of charges from less about 1 grain up to about 60 grains. They are kinda cheap looking, but they work really well, and automatically when used with the Lee Turrent press.

my whole line of logic was this, i really like lee dies, i really like my lee powder measure, priming system and press, i figure hey logic stands ill probably like their progressive too ill hold off a bit longer and keep checking the used local market, maybe something will turn up. i really like reloading, but i definatly wouldnt mind upping the output from my single stage. even if i could do 200 and hour, which is pretty pokey for a progressive, i'd probably try to do a backflip

One thing I've used since I started is that Lee primer system. I like it a lot. The only problem I've encountered is Winchester primers seem a bit stickier while going down the feed ramp. CCI's and Federal go down real smooth. I just have to tap the primer holder from time to time and make sure there are enough primers in the feed ramp (if that's what it's called) to make sure one ends up on the ram and goes into a case.
I know that a lot of guys like to use a hand held priming tool, but I seem to get great results using the Lee tool on the Rockchucker. Very easy to get the primer seated just where I want it without to much pressure to crush the priming compound.
I've also used the Lee case trimmers for forever it seems.

I have used Ideal, Lyman, Lee, RCBS , C&H , Pacific and Herter's.
RCBS, C&H and Pacific have given me problens with the deprimer, so I just use the Lee universal deprimer die.
The Lee Powder measure , I have 2, one came from saddle sore, work well with everything except the very long rod powders, even then they are quite accurate, just make a lot of noise as they crunch the long rods, the weights are still accurate.
I do not use anything except single stage presses, also look at every case after each step, would not have a progressive as a gift.

The Lee Turrent Press is a fine one. 200 pistol rounds per hour is easily done.
Another major benifit is the quick change die plates. If you load rifle, you can use weighed charges and chage calibers in seconds. Changing to a different caliber and changing the Auto-Disc Powder Measure takes a few minutes. It is really worth it on rifle. I have all my dies set up on spare discs.
