I've been happy with my Lee auto prime. Only thing was I didn't know about the different shell holders until after I got it from Midway. Had to wait for the next online order to get a set of those so I could use it. Been serving me well since, actually I might get a second so I can have one for small and one for large.

I used to use the Sinclair tool until the artrithis in my thumb joint caused too much pain, had a RCBS hand-held priming tool-well engineered with the exeption of the priming rod guide, cheap plastic.

My experiences with Hornady ended after working with their dies with the new way of fastening the sizer-ball/decapping unit-I still have them,do not hate anybody that much to give them away as a present.

Now I use a RCBS bench mounted tool with the feeder tubes, and this tool is just perfect for the job;Well made, simple and precise, and surprisingly sensitive in seating.

A 100 .222Rem cases are primed in not much longer than 20 minutes.

Regards,

Paul T.

One thing I like about all the priming tools is their price..... Lee's must be a cheap tool.... only about $13 ((( :D )))

As for RCBS vastly improving the Lee (hand primer) auto-prime...well, maybe they did. And they're making a fortune off of it IF they're selling very many. At least three times the cost of the Lee. WHy does everyone make comparable equipment to Lee (and sometimes not so comparable), then multiply by three to get their MSRP???

"Look, if you sell it for what it's worth, people will think it's junk. Bump it up another ramspec. People aren;t dumb.... they'll think, at that price, it's got to be good!!!"

I have a RCBS and a Lee Hand primer. The RCBS i believe has less hand "pressure" required then the Lee. However the piece that you change in the handprimer for large or small primers. Well its a joke. horrid cheap plastic, in fact mine is broke at this time. The Lee however, and i dont care for many of there products short of the dies and handprimer, is quite sturdy and reliable. The metal piece that goes thru the body of the RCBS "body" as well i find very flimsy. So all in all i would say that the Lee is the better of the two by far. The Shell Holders for the Lee were no problem i bought the assortmant set i guess youd call it from midway and it covers pretty much anything. What it doesnt i just use the press primer which is few calibers.

I feel the same way as you can tell by my first post. I have never seen a tool that could double stack ptimers with Houdini like magic as this one can...If I throw it away, somebody I like may find it. Hornady finally said they would send me another one, I told them it was worth more to me as bad advertisement!

I've had the Lee primer tool for years, and like it.  Bought the RCBS to have one for small primers and one for large.  The RCBS tool has a nice feeling handle, but like said earlier, the shell-holder 'holder' sucks.  It also needs to be virtually dismantled to change the shell holders.  The Lee unit can be changed out in less than a minute.

I bought a second Lee unit, and now have them marked 'small' and 'large'.

I broke the lever on my Lee hand primer the other day. I called Lee and they sent a new one out.

Staying on the subject of priming tools: here's a beautifully made primer seater I picked up at a bench rest match this summer.  It's completly machined of stainless steel, hand finished,  and can be adjusted for seating depth.  It may be a bit pricey I guess but  absolutely  smoothest primer seater I've ever used and fits nicely in range loading chest.

Any markings as t who makes it?  Does it use standard shell holders?  No primer tray, does it take only one primer at a time?

Looks like some quality workmanship!

Looks very well made indeed!

can it fixate the case in the shell-holder like the sinclair tool does?

The Hunter priming tool is indeed well made, which is one of the reasons I bought it. (In fact I bought three) It does position and secure the case like the Sinclair, operating in similiar fashon. But whereas the head of the Sinclair tool must be rotated to lock the case in the holder, the sleeve surrounding the priming post in the Hunter tool automatically preceeds the post on the closing (seating) stroke. Thereby eleminating a step. I have a few Sinclair primer seaters and while I admire their quality and precision, seldome use them for theis reason.
The Hunter tool uses standard shell holders, but the one that comes with it has obviously much polished add refined. Also, the shell holder can be rotated and operated in any position. The tool can be adjusted for a specific primer depth, or for "feel" seating, which I personally prefer. I'm attaching a closeup photo of the tool with sleeve in full up position, which shows more clearly than I can describe. The tools are made by Scott Hunter, a skilled designer and craftsman who has the annoying habit of charging what he thinks his products are worth. As you may notice if you visit his website "Magnum Metal" The photo, if I can take a decent one, will be in a following post.
