Lately I seem to be plagued with stuck cases in both my .223 RCBS X die and my Hornady custom 6mm TCU. I'm using either one shot aerosol or the new One Shot Pump product. I've always preferred them because of their complete lack of powder or primer contamination. I know that the Pump product must be completely dry prior to use or you might as well use nothing. Last time I used it I sprayed it on an old lube pad I had and rolled the cases across prior to sizing. This seemed to help. The Hornady die seems especially prone to sticking. I must get a stuck case for every 50 loaded. Drilling, tapping, extracting is getting old. Are there better products out there? The Hornady sizes cases about .004 to .005 at the junction of case and head. Out of my Contender they come out at about .379+/-. After sizing they are .374. RD

knock on wood, i have never had a stuck case.
imperial wax is the way to go here. don't use too much!

fingers...
wax the pads of your index, middle finger, and thumb on your right hand, hold the case mouth in your left hand, and apply. new wax every third or fourth case. tumble after sizing.
one tin will last a varminter a full year. an occasional shooter will die before the wax runs out.

Thanks Dak! I read somewhere that you can also scrape a little dab in every 3rd or 4th case mouth to lube the sizer button. Or do you use graphite or Mica? I use graphite either graphite or mica now. RD

i have to admit to getting a case stuck once (long time ago) i tried the pump ..eh .. love the aerosol better !,i mica for neck size,never cared for most the lube pads,the wax is good but i only use it for reforming ,i believe rooster labs ( the same rooster lube people ) make the hornady pump as well as midways ( and their brass polish as well )check out their deep drawing fluid and pdq21

my worst problem with either sprays or waxes is getting too much (much easier for me to control than the pad tho )

i'll run some at the top of the case mouth about every fourth or fifth case. freshly annealed cases get every other one.
you're gonna want to allow for 2-3 hours to tumble after you get done so the wax comes out of the case neck.

first off I think that anybody that reloads for sure needs an RCBS stuck case removal tool as the things just kick butt on a stuck case in your die,it will take you 5 to 10 minutes from start to finish but you will soon have that case out and in the trash can and back on your happy lil way to crafting ammo slick as a whistle,I have known several who have used the Cabelas spray case lube and gotten cases stuck including myself but Ill tell you where I think it works grand and thats to stand all your cases up in a group and spray iy in the mouth of your cases cause there is nuttin I hate worse than dragging cases across a dry expander ball and it feels like your gonns rip the expander ball out of the die or pull the top of the case head off the cartridge but with a lil shot of spray pump lube in the case mouths those cases come off the expander ball slick as a whistle..........................

I have been using STP for a couple of decades and never had a stuck case when using STP.
My solution for stuck cases is to put it in a zip lock bag of some type, then through it in my deep freeze. It will come unstuck after being in the freezer for a night or so.
I also have the RCBS stuck case remover kit some where around, haven't needed it since I figured out that freezer was easier.

Once you have the case drilled and tapped to remove it from the die, stick it in the freeze for about a half hour or so. brass shrinks at a different level than steel and the case will come out a lot easier.

It is good to clean the insides and inspect your dies. Sometimes they do get clogged with dirt and too much lube. And they corrode and get scratched. The cleaning and polishing is easy to do.

The first time that I ever experienced a stuck case, I had it removed within 25 mins by scrounging up my own parts for a, role your own stuck case remover.
The most important tool necessary would be a 1/4" tap. The other pieces/tools would be a drill motor, 1/4" bolt, 3/8" socket,some washers and a vise to hold the die. Downtime is minimal.
One Shot being the overall culprit. For lube I use 1 part Lanolin to 4 parts Iso-Heet applied via a spray bottle.

Some years ago I experienced a stuck case in a 30-30 Hornady die using One Shot. Got pissed and sent the die w/case still inside back to Hornady. They sent a new die - also another can of One Shot.. I still have it - planing to see how far away I can hit it with my 300 Weatherby!!

Agree with the post that every reloader should have a stuck case puller, BUT if I had gotten one when I first started reloading I would have forgotten where I put it (took 15 years to stick my first one).
I use Hornady Unique Case Lube. Apply with fingers to every 3rd case.
