I need a new micrometer. In moving after I sold my last home my micrometer has seemed to grow legs and run off to the big reloading vacation spot in the ground??
It was a Hornady mic that worked well enough.I think I`ll buy me a digital mic this round.Any recommendations from you fellas that use the digital stuff?
I`m sure it will show up in a box of wifes foo foo junk after I buy a new one but I need it so, gettin the checkbook ready.
Thanks in advance for reading and recommendations..

Gene

I have a Mitutoyo digital 0-25mm, I also have one of their digital calipers- not cheap but really good stuff.

Regards,

Gene,

PM me your address, I've got an extra you can have.  Think it's a Lyman...non-digital though.

+1 on Paul. You cannot go wrong with Mitutoyo instruments. I've been using a stainless vernier for 25 years.

I have a Starret that I really like...But truthfully the Lyman and the RCBS that I also have...work just as well for reloading purposes.

Here are a couple of cheaper ones that work very well.

This China stuff has gotten pretty good in the last few years.

I've worked in machine shops for a long time, and these are just as good as the expensive name brand stuff.  Just my two cents, Jeff

Harbor Freight has 6"ers for @$30. The 1' ones were just a bit more and both are digital. I had just bought a Lyman dial for $20 when I saw them.

I have several Starret mics, but on the loading bench I use a set of HF digital calipers.

It's funny how things grow legs and walks away, especially after moving. Maybe they are home sick

I have a habit of acquiring old tools.  Not just any, though.  Tools that I can actively use.  Over the years I've picked up a number of Starrett and Brown & Sharpe micrometers.  As I restore/rebuild antique motorcycle engines, I like to have those that measure down to 0.0001" increments.  Overkill in some instances.  For my shooting/reloading needs, 0.001" is all that I need.  As I get older, I tend to shy away from electronic dependancy when it comes to tools.  Batteries for clocks and flashlights are about all I keep on hand.  A good light and bifocals still serve me well.  That being said, to contradict myself, I would feel a great void if I didn't have my computer(s) and Internet access.

Anyway, my point is that reasonable prices on outstanding tools can still be had on the online auctions.

Jack
