I just purchased a Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 in 30-06. It's in about 60 % condition. I'll post of pictures later. I only bought because it was a Pre-64. From the serial number it looks like it was made arouind 1953.
Would you guys shoot it or clean it up and let it collect more value?

I generally shoot my collectors that are less than 90%. You have a really high quality rifle, so why not use it?

I'd shoot it. I had a .270 pre 64 a few years ago, and it shot great. Needed some money, sold it, regretted it ever since. That action is one of the finest produced. I could load a fired case in the mag well and slam the bolt home. It would feed that case as if it were a loaded round.
Another couple of things you may not know about pre 64's. The bolt is all one piece, the handle, body and lugs are all carved out of the same hunk of metal. Also the front sight base is intregal with the barrel. Check it out.
Another thing you might consider. Have a custom rifle built in your favorite caliber using the action.
Anyway have fun with the new toy.

I'd shoot it. In less than 90% condition it has very little or no collector value, other than the fact that it is a well made rifle. It will still be a well made rifle whether you shoot it or not.
