Shooting sticks woulf be good too. I just bought a combo walking/shooting stick at Turner's Sporting Goods. I think I've seen them in Cabelas too. Mine has two legs. Handy if hunting in mountains. My some "instucted " me on hoe to do avatar. Damm kids.

I plan on zero'ing it at 300 once I get the load right. I like this rifle if I can just get it to perform like I want. I thought about that new rangefinding scope from Bushnell. It has a Baush & Lomb on it now. It looks to be a pretty good scope but it is an adjustable objective and I am not to big on those.

With all the $ invested in your rifle, I'd put a better scope on it. Like a Burris or Leupold. That's just me though...

Thanks BBP, Will do. I have a Leupold on my 7mm. This scope was on this one when I got the rifle. They have all went up so much. I would love to get one of those new Leupold VX-7's. Those are supposed to be the best from Leupold now.

Us869 is listedon the website for a few of the bigger guns don. I think it was there for that 300 rum that you shoot. Pat

Okay BBP and FRM. Here's the scoop on Hodgdon's US869 that was supposed to be out spring of 2006... It's a spherical powder intended for the .50 BMG with heavy bullets like 700 to 800 gr. with match accuracy to boot ! I looked up loads and I'll tell you I was dissapointed. I won't be buying some anytime soon. For 180 gr. bullet they showed the max load as 107.0 grs for 3070 fps w/57,300 psi. That's a slug and really low psi. Maybe they didn't reach max ? Compared to Retumbo which I have been using since it came out, 3 or 4 yrs. mabe ? Max load with it is 100.5 grs. 3300 fps w/62,400 psi. my average was 3363 fps out of a 26 in. barrel thru the chrono. H50BMG was even better than US869 with max load of 108.0 grs 3159 fps w/62,100 fps. never tried it. Have tried H-1000 with max load of 96.0 grs 3218 fps w/62,800 psi .  my fps was 3241 fps average. It has been my most accurate max load to date. I still think H-1000 would work in you ,257's very well. Rel 25 was just about as fast as Retumbo with max loads at 3310 fps average with max load of I think 95,5 grs but not near as accurate as H-1000 or Retumbo.

From what I have read on the H1000, and BBP's account, the H1000 will spike the pressure a little too fast. Dont know for sure though. I can shoot 90 grains of Retumbo with no signs of excessive pressure. I think BBP said 86 of H1000 and any more he had case neck splits. I dont know. Still in early stages of development.

H-1000 does have more psi. I think because of it being a faster burn for one thing. I liked the Retumbo better for one thing Hunting/more fps. It was very close to the same size group also. no more than a .25 in.  I got a .75 in. 4 shot grp. with the        H-1000. Read about the powder and said allot of target and long range shooters use it. I hunt more than punch paper. I think we can get to 5 pages !

Yeah i am thinking about trying retumbo in my 257 cause i am only using 82 grains of h1000 and it starts to show signs of pressure. 86 is the max load listed but i wont go that high. With 82 i am running 3800 fps through my chrony. Right now i am consentrating  on 223. Trying to get all that brass full you sent me Cory. Pat

you know come to think of it, I didn't have any signs of pressure with the listed max load of 96.o grs. of H-1000. I just didn't go any further because it was shooting about 125 fps. slower than a max load of Retumbo. I ought to load up some with 96.5,97.0,etc to see what happens and shoot them through the chrono and at target at the same time. Maybe they will be even more accurate than 96.0 grs. was ? I don't like the higher pressures with it to begin with though... :shameon:
