I got my Rimrocks stock yesterday !

Waiting for at home when i got home from work yesterday was the Rimrock stock for my .270.   Here is the story, A pre 64 featherweight model 70 action  I bought a couple years ago with a canjar trigger installed before I boufgt it making it a non collectable, I had PAC-NOR put a 22 inch match grade barrel in the origional counour on it and matt blue it, Mounted a matt Leupold VX3 2.5X8 with the bone a crocket reticle, and bought a rimrock real tree stock fitted by my smith. It looks real good , and now I just have to shoot it ! I might need to work on the barrel channl , as there is prety constant contact all the way down ,  I loaded a bunch of 130 grain loads and a few 140s to try, I have high hopes for the barnes 130 grain TSX and reloader 22...tj3006

That sounds like a real nice rifle tj.   I hope it shoots good for ya.   It does seem you might have to do some barrel channel work if that stock is making contact.   But who knows, until you get it printing on paper.  Good luck and let us know how it goes.

tj,

That sounds like a truly beautiful rig.  I'd love to see a pic of it - even though I know you don't have digital camera capability at the moment.

Sounds like an ultimate hunting rifle for sure.  Strangely similar to my own aspirations for a custom hunting rifle.

I use the HS Precision stock on my Mod 70 in 270 Win. I have the SS LH Mod 70 with 24 inch barrel and it love the 150 gr Nosler Part with Rel 22 . I have found over the years the 150 gr is a much better killer in the 270 than the 130 gr and shoots just as flat.  I did load some 130 gr Hornady Interbond a few weeks back to try in the 270 but haven't tried them on big game. Three shots at 100 yards with this bullet are touching. It hard to judge a big game bullet on whitetail because just about anything will put down a whitetail deer.  The 270 you just built sounds like a real shooter and the Rim Rock is one of the better stocks out there. Post some picture of this rifle , i would love to see what it looks like in the Rim Rock Stock.

I don't have a DiGI cam yet.

I choose the 130 grain bullet beacuse i  have other rfles for shooting bigger game. I live in Portland Or, and although we have white tail ,most of our deer hunting is for mule deer or black tail.  I have tried a few 140 grain bullets and my old winchester likes them. I rather like the barnes tripple shock. It has been very accurate in my .257 Roberts and I am going to try the 130  in the .270 ,The rimrock stock looks real nice but it was more expensive and time consuming than the HS would have been. The Sporstsmans warehouse neer here has HS precision stocks for most rifles in stock . but only in theweb finish.   ...tj3006
