Some of you have seen the Fajen stocked 7x57 I have with the McGowan barrel.I got to tinkering and that barrel is not stainless. It is chrome moly that was left in the white after being buffed to a high sheen. That has been taken care of.

The magazine follower arrived but I am going to wait on the new B&C stock to get here because I have to dissasemble the trigger shoe on the canjar trigger to get it out of the stock.

It shouldn`t be long,I am gonna order the stock tonight and see how it goes.I think my trigger guard may have to be replaced too.The existing one is chrome and has a notch blade on the front of it that fit into a groove on the Fajen stock.

I already have a fantastic load for this rifle that is deadly assed accurate.I think  that going from a single shot sillohuette rifle to a hunting rifle is gonna be great.I wish I`d done this a long time ago.
This lower 3 shot group is the 140 gr Sierra Gameking load with 36 grains of Varget I run in it.Gonna shoot it for 5 on the next run after the new stock.;)

Waiting on parts is definitely the hardest part!!   But it'll get together and maybe become one of those rifles that makes you smile every time you shoot it.

7X57 is a good round !and it sounds like you are building a nice one ! What kind of action is it ? And have you chronied that load ?  If you are happy with what ever velocity you are getting, great !!  cause it is grouping quite well ! but if the velocity dissapoints you I would sugjest H-414 , my little CZ full stock shots about as well and My velocity is 2800 pluss even from a 20 inch barrel  ...tj3006

Hey TJ.This rifle is built on a Savage 110 action with the barrel nut removed.I`ll try to get some pics for you guys so you see befor and afters. Its a pretty rifle but just too heavy for the woods and single shot too.I chronographed my load in the heat of the summer and I was getting averages of slightly above 2500 fps.I recall you saying you were getting good velocity from 414.2800 fps is smoking from a standard 7x57.I might have to experiment with that a bit...

My CZ has a deep throat making it easy to load hotter , but I bet you can do as well or better with a longer tube, I took my loads from the barnes manual and worked up quite a bit. Don't forget sammi specs for the 7x57 or for the old 91 and 93 mausers !

and your savage is a much stronger rifle...tj3006

Hey Timber and tj, I'm using 44 gr of Varget in my 7-08 and getting 2800 fps with 140 gr. Noslers.  I'm wondering why 36 gr of Varget is what you are using in a larger case?  Surely you can safely put more in there... especially with a new strong action.  However, I like the idea of using H-414 or any type of 4350 burn rate powder for the 7x57.  That case size would seem to work better with a 4350 burn rate.

Hey Moose.I could safely go a lot heavier  in charge weight with Varget.I stopped where I seen it shoot the most accurate.I tried IMR4350 and4320.I could not get it to shoot like I did with Varget.I will probably do some high end load testing with it after the stock job is finished.7MM-08????aint that a girls gun, kinda like a .243?heheheheheh

That oughta get the ball rolling....:P:D
