For you fellas out there that are interested in the .450 Bushmaster Thumper, I've had one for about 3 months now and very satisfied with it, and have shot 5 shot groups at 100 yds, with less than 1 moa.  I use the 250 gr SST bullet and have worked up my own load and very satisfied with the results and now waiting for deer season to arrive so I can try it on a deer, but if a coyote crosses my path in the meantime, it is loaded and ready.

Where are you getting the 250gr SSTs? According to Hornady, they haven't released them to the public for reloading yet.

I get them in the black powder section, they are the bullet Hornady has put together with the sabot for muzzleloaders, they are the exact same bullet.  I bought a pack of 25, brought them home and weighed them and mic'd them along with factory loads and they are identical.  The results are fantastic for this big bore rifle.  However, watch out for the packaging, they also have the 300 grain bullets in this section.

I too contacted Hornady and they said they were not going to release this bullet for reloaders until sometime next year.  Not too nice for us reloaders, but as long as they are available in the black powder section, who cares, although we're probably paying more for them at this rate.  I will also try this bullet with the sabot in my muzzleloader to see how accurate it is.

Black Hat, were you asking me?   Thumper, about my scope or someone else?

I have a 4x16x40 on my Thumper, it is a Barska, of which I have almost no knowledge of, but it works for me okay.   Got it at Cabela's here in Scarborough, Me. for 2 lobsters (2-1/2#ders), 21 porcupine quills (not less than 2" in length) half a peck of potatoes (Katahdins) two coyote pelts (raw) and the use of my old pickup truck for the weekend.  No, really, paid only $69.99 plus tax for it, and it seem to be well worth that, good clarity and adj obj lense and ocular lense.

Blackhat,

It is a NcStar 3x9x40 ruby lens compact.  I think I paid $50.00.  You can get them from Sportsmans Guide or Cheaper than Dirt.  It is OK for what I paid for it.  Will get something better at a later date but it works good for now.  It has held up well from the continued pounding of the Beowulf.  The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't collect light very well and cuts my day short at least 15 minutes shorter than my Nikon.

Thumper,

Ok, I figured as much.  Been doin the same thing for my Casull for the last couple of years.  I thought maybe you had found a source for bulk bullets of this fashion.  No they ain't cheap like that, but neither are the Powerbelts I load for my Beowulf.  But they sure do shoot good!
