Ok I got it..

Stevens over under rifle shotgun combo in .22/20ga and a remington 700 in .30-06.

I cheated and got 3 guns out of 2.

Say, Rem. Man! Now didn't they make that in a .222 caliber as well as the .22LR? It seems as though I remember a fellow clase mate of mine getting one for Christmas years ago.

I am not sure if they made that in .222. I think they also made it in a .223/12ga, and maybe a .30-30/12ga. I am sure there are more combos then even that. They make a neat little survival hunting gun.

Interesting when you ponder it, of course I like the idea of which 8-9-15 guns.

Mine goes 22lr for small food, either a 12 ga, 223, or 30/06 or 308 for big food.

Wondering what the future holds I kind of want something popular that I could get ammo for. So I did a quick look at gunbroker.com and found
  • 1216 223's for sale
  • 1007 30/06's for sale
  • 888 308's for sale
  • 807 270's for sale
  • 246 45-70's for sale
I think I'd go with a 22lr and 12 ga for immediate protection and food gathering here in Florida.

Then I'd trade my ex-wife to one of the fellows who has already posted and get their 30/06 and/or 308. It would be a win win situation, we'd both get something. She looks pretty good, natural red hair, nice figure, but a little on the bossy side and she likes to go places all the time and spend money. But nothing is perfect.

If you could only have or own  two rifles to cover all the hunting you either do or might do, what caliber in what make/model would it be?

I can't cover all with just 2 rifles anyway I look at it!

3 would be hard.  Might could with:
  1. 22LR/12gauge combo
  2. 243 Win
  3. 375 H&H

I have thought about this, are we figuring what all we hunt or only around where we live? I travel to various places to do some hunting, but the animals that are eatable around my place don't require that large a caliber.

I would keep my sako, mauser-action, .375 H&H which has been re-chambered to .375 weatherby, and my rem. custom 541s .22 lr. I have developed accurate loads including a round ball at 800fps, a 220gr at 2,000 fps, a 235 at 2500 fps, 270 at 2800 fps and  300 gr. solid and bonded at 2900 fps. It also shoots factory .375 h&h into 1 1/2" with a velocity loss of only 60 fps. The worldwide availability of .375 h&h ammo is a big + for traveling sportsmen. If allowed two centerfire rifles plus a .22 lr. the other one would be a .223 heavy barreled varminter. I prefer the .204 and the .22-250 for varminting but .223 ammo is much more available worldwide.

I would have a 308 and 223 if I had to remain in my general area.

Katch1,

I use my Springfield M1A and my Colt AR15 HBAR NM a lot in my areas, they are very adequate for all of the pests and food in my area.

Wow Could we make it three rifle?

I used to own a sweet little Kimber chambered in .22 Hornet that would take care of small game and even Varmint.  Easy to reload for and accurate.

Remington 700 BDL chambered in .280 Ackley Improved for everything else.

Now if we were allowed three guns I would make a different choice...

a Custom Ruger 10/22  everyone needs a .22 LR

My LMT M4 Carbine in 5.56mm

and the 700 BDL in .280 AI

Please remember that beyond guns and other issues, we do have the power to change our government as the citizenry of this country via constitutional means, which includes a militia and fire arms. Many of us have never been to told or ordered to stand down from our oath that we took in the military to defend the constitution.

And I am a well organized militia of one!

Regarding the chambering of .222 in the Savage V24, they sure did and it would be an excellent choice.  It was also chambered in .223 over a 20 ga.

I like  this choice as one and my other would be my R93 Blaser synthetic in .308.

I used the like the Triple Deuce for Hog hunting in a bolt action rifle, but I have found my Ar and a few other peoples ARs to be much better suited to varmiting, but other people have good experiences with what they use, the things about rifles and pistold, if they work for you, then that is what you should use.

Jerry,

I have much confidence in the .222 but I do admit the .223 may be a better choice and availability of a great selection of factory ammo really helps it.
