Does anyone else have one of these? This one is in .308. I got it from "a friend of a friend". I only paid $250.00 for it complete with the Weaver Steel Tube KV-60 6X scope mounted on it. He said it had less than a box of shells run thru it. The only thing that was "wrong" with it when I bought it was one of the scope caps was missing. I called Weaver and believe it or not they had one and sent it to me. I was going to replace the scope, but after shooting the the targets posted, I decided to keep it just the way it is. I always liked these guns, but could never find one in nice shape that was priced right. This one sure was! I ordered a extra magazine from Brownell's and it feeds as good as the original.  billt

If anyone has one of these rifles, a common problem can be missing, or damaged magazines. Original magazines for these guns can run up to, and over $100.00, providing you can even find them. This link to Brownells has a real nice one for much less. It's made on the original tooling, so it's a sure fit. It's all blued steel with a die cast Aluminum floor plate. A good deal all the way around.  billt

Hey billt, I used to have one just like it. Bought it brand new in 1963. Would give anything to have it back. Real nice rifle. The Blue Book of Gun Values puts its price at $400-450 in excel.cond. I'd say you got a great deal, hang on to it.

I found one of those at a shop awhile back. it had an old weaver on it also ! It is a .308 I was thinming of trading my Pre64 model 70 featherweight in the same caliber for it, but I probably won't, there is another shop just a coupleblocks away where my smith operates and he has a very nice 99 savage in .308, i like that too, but i think ill hang on to mine,   ...tj3006

I have own four Model 88's and three Model 100's in 308 over the years. I took one nice buck with the Model 88 back in the early 80's. I sold or trade them and sometimes wish i had keep one. The one thing i really liked about the 88 was the reversable safety without having to take the rifle apart. Just twist the safety around pull it out and reverse it for left hand use. ( Bet most people that own one, doesn't know that ) This is one rifle Winchester should bring back to the market, it would be the perfect home for the Winchester Short Magnums. This deer was taken with the Model 88 in 308 at about 100 yards useing the Factory 180 gr Round Nose Power Point.

Beal, the story about th 88s, and the 99 savages for that matter is they are just to costly to make, if they were to make them now they would cost so much they would be hard to sell, But, I think you can get a browning lever in a short mag, if they would put it out in the old 350 remington i might be a buyer myself ...tj3006

They make the Browning in the 358 Win and the 450 Marlin, which is two pretty good cals in this rifle.
