i do, and in one rifle it was measurably bad, the other was just a waste of time, money, and powder.

My results were mildly favorable with Tubb's treatment. I wonder if a couple of good sessions with JB compound would have helped just as well.
I'm not a purist about my "target" rifles, so I may not be the judge that a formal target shooter is. Maybe a dyed-in-the-wool competitive shooter will weigh in on this subject..

I cant figure out how your going to do anyrhing other than wear the throat.
If i gave you a 5 gallon bucket of car wax but made you start at the gas cap each time you applied wax how would the other side of the car look?

No question about it.
44% of people who take a placebo for migrans get relief as well.
I want to know how you can run a bullet w/ a compund on it 24" down a barrel and have anything left on the bearing surface after the first inch...
just curious.

It's embedded in the bullet. The fact that it wears down slightly should be beneficial to accuracy, as bbl. makers have for years said that a barrel tapered slightly to the muzzle will be more accurate. But like most of the rest of you, I'm still not really sold on the idea.

I firelapped one of my dad's rifles with the Tubbs Final Finish. The rifle fouled horribly and shot patterns rather than groups. The rifle now shoots better and cleans up much easier, although it did move the throat forward slightly. It was short throated anyway, so it didn't adversely affect anything. Overall, it was a positive experience. I would, however, limit its use to barrels that are a just a couple of four letter words away from being used as tomato stakes. I would never consider using firelapping on one of my Shilens.

I bought a project 98 Muaser a few years back that was started with a .257 Bob Douglas barrel. I had it reamed to 257 AI, and it started copper fouling in the worst way. After a peek with the borescope, I noticed burrs in the throat. Time to review options.
1. Shoot lots of rounds until the burrs are gone, with the associated extended cleaning.
2. Hand lap the barrel. Very time consuming.
3. Give the Tubb system a try.
I opted for the Tubb system, and it worked great. No more copper fouling, and accuracy is superb. I bagged a bull Caribou last year, one shot in the neck behind the head, 260 yards, confirmed with laser range finder. I agree it's not a cure-all for poor accuracy, but it is a good system for some issues.
