Hey guys looking for a little help. I am building an AR 15 off of a stripped lower that I just purchased. I am looking for recomendations on triggers. I want a single stage trigger that breaks like glass. It will be for a coyote hunting rifle so two and a half three pounds probably. Just wanting any advise you have. Anyone have experience with a chip mccormick, timney, JP, etc.
I have two other ar's, one with a standard DPMS trigger that is pretty gritty, and one with a bushmaster match two stage trigger that is really good.
Thanks alot

Timney is excellent I use quite a few Timney triggers with absolutely no complaints.
Jewell is excellent but pricey,I am not certain if Jewell makes an AR trigger but I would imagine so..

| I have a timney on my weatherby 22-250. It is a great trigger. Don't know anyone who has one in an AR.

I have used Timney triggers on various rifles over the last 3 or so decades, they are really good.

NUshooter,
I purchased a Timney trigger for my V-match Bushmaster when Natchez first started
selling them. I had to wait about two months to get one as they would sell out
before my order was processed. Good things come to those who wait!
The trigger comes with instructions and is very simple to install. It took me about
fifteen minutes to install. (Including looking for the old trigger parts that bounced
across the floor.)
At the range I found the trigger to be a top notch, A-1, excelent piece of craftsmanship! Well worth the price.
Be aware that you need to know if you have large or small trigger pins in your
lower. Midway had good information on them. Good luck!

| The lower I am going to build on is a superior arms. I picked it up relativley cheap through a freind of mine who has an ffl. I am pretty sure that it is a small pin receiver. I built my last AR on a DPMS lower I can compare to make sure it is small pin. You guys helped me make up my mind on the trigger I will go with a timney. From looking the ones that I saw are either three lb pull or four lb pull. This one is probably going to end out a super light coyote rig but I am not sure. I have been eye balling a 458 socom, 50 beowolf, 450 bushmaster upper. Leaning towards 458 socom if I go big bore. I think it would make a great hog gun. Thanks again for the input. If you have any more suggestions I am happy to hear it. Last edited on 14 August 2008 04:05 AM by NUshooter

| I have 2 ARs. Both have Jewels and they are excellent. Most highpower shooters use the Jewel or a Giesel. The Chip McCormick may be hard to find and there is some talk on the highpower sight that service may be none existant.

| NUshooter, I've been looking at triggers also. In one of my Cheaper than Dirt catalogues it said that the Chip McCormic triggers hit pretty hard and would puncture some primers however Cabellas have them in their shooting catalogue for under $200. I read on one supply house site that the Jewell is a 2 stage trigger, which is not for me. I will probably go with a Timney but will check with Cabellas tech people on the Chip M. trigger before doing so.

I don't see how a hammer of any type can pierce a primer on an AR. The AR firing pin has a large shoulder on it that regulates how far it travels.
The Jewel is a 2 stage trigger but both stages have a lot of adjustment and I think if you tried one of them you would probably like it.
From all the reading and personnel experience I have with the Jewel I think it is probably the most reliable and longest lasting of the after market triggers.

| Coupe, just telling you what the catalogue said about the Chip M. trigger. Good to know about the adjustment on the Jewell. I don't live too far from Jewell's I will stop by and see about those. They were selling for under $200 on the site I looked at. Maybe an old price.

TG, they are in San Marcos off of Hwy. 123 going towards Seguin. Google Jewell Triggers and you can get their phone # but the map on google is incorrect.

I have 2. Since I shoot competition they must be set for a total of 4.5 pounds pull weight. I set them for a 1st stage of 3 pounds and a second stage of 1.5 pounds.
Since I pull three pounds on the first stage and hold it, it seems like I have a 1.5 pound trigger. They are both extremely consistant.

| I need to try the trigger pulls you have yours set at. My first stage was set at 1 5/8 lbs. and the second stage at 3/8 lbs. for a combined total of 2 lbs. That is way too light out in the field! I shot four Jackrabbits and played some more with the AR then reached for my varmint rifle. It was so bad that when I used my Winchester M-70 Fthrwt 22-250 with a 3 lb. trigger I found myself jerking the trigger to make it go off. That cost me two coyotes! I finally redeemed myself on Sunday but not until I missed the third coyote once. I am going to try a 1&1/2 lb. second stage first.
