My mom has a OLD 722 in 257, it shoots like crap (about 2.5") we have bedded and free floated the barrel, tried different bullets and different powders.  Dad has wanted to use 100+grain bullets I told him that the twist rate was slow and he should re barrel it, go to improved at the same time.  What twist rate should we use??
Thanks

Lyman Reloading Manual 46th edition (old one) shows twist for Remington 722 at 1 in 10".  Looked at latest Hornady and Sierra manuals, they both use 1 in 10" twist.  Hornady cautions on their loads as being for +P loads.

Your 722 does indeed have a 10" twist. But check it yourself with a tightly patched cleaning rod. That way you'll be sure you don't have a "weirdo."
