New here and like the looks and knowledge of it. With that being said. I picked up a new DPMS in 260 rem last month on a whim.Thought it would be a nice little shooter , THEN I noticed the price of factory ammo. even reloading looks like better than $1 per round. Why is that when 308 better rounds can be done for so little? I am assuming due to availablity of brass.I have 4 other ARs 3 in 5.56 and one in 308 along with the usualy ragtag bolt collection , including a rem custom shop 7 stw that I have owned for quite a few years now that is near and dear to me.
So I am considering trading off or outright selling thisto get maybe a custom bolt gun. The 338 lapua has caught my eye and i know where one is setting in the armalite platform for $1650 and I also know going in the cost of shooting that round, also considering a 30/378 again , but have seen so many wilcats my head is spinning over the choices available nowadays. that 7 allen magnum looks like a very impressive round . Gun will be for Pdogs, Ghogs and such at different ranges up to an including 800+ and I aint a real mathematician so wanting super flat if going smaller caliber , also a elk muley rig, like it to be 16pounds or under.Used is fine as long as lowround also and well maintained
Any suggestions?
sorry I am rambling but kind of talk myself into things.

i don't load 260, or any 6.5's for that matter, but i can't imagine it is that expensive to load, once the brass is in place.
if you aren't real happy w/ the gun, then you'll always find a reason to want to unload it. right now might be a great time to unload it as so many people are panic-buying all things ar because of obama's impending presidency. i really like the ar-platform, and think it is wonderful that dpms standardizes so many big game hunting chamberings in the ar-10 series.
as a fan of hi-powder cap cartridges, i say if you need to unload the 260 to get the 338 lapua, do it. the 338 lapua will make a fantastic prairie dog gun.
the 30-378 doesn't do much for me, but that's just me. anyway, the direction i'm leaning toward is to sell the 260 and pick up the lapua.
good luck!

I have used 308,7-08 to make 260 brass. Some people say you need a small base dies for these gas guns.I have had no problems with useing regular loading dies!!Take a look in the predator section here pic latest yote with 260 DPMS I love this gun!! Shooter

The cost of ammo these days is thru the roof, I stopped going to guns shows because I was getting depressed by the prices.
I shoot a Ultra Match in .308/7.62 NATO, it costs me about about 30 cents or so a reload, but buying the components these days will push those costs up over a $1.60 a shot. I stocked up on stuff a while ago and if I continue at my current rate of consumption, I will need to restock in 9 years, maybe by then the politics will have calmed down. But prices will be still high compared to the current prices.
But now is the time to sell if you have it to sell. You may make some money, but then again if you want to buy something it will probably cost more.
None of my weapons are for sale at the moment. The same can be said about my reloading supplies, my casting stuff and my bulk lead.
I would keep the rifle and stock up on reloading stupplies for it. But that is just my opinion.

I caught a deal on 260 ammo at the Tulsa Gun Show. Bought 10 boxes of Remington 140 gr. loads for $15 per box. Couldn't hardly get my money out of my wallet fast enough.
