I am a new guy from Tucson Az. looking foward to some good chat. I pulled out my old Marlin 1893 38-55 saddle ring carbine from my safe and dusted it off, loaded up some ammo to do some shooting---havn't done that in about 10 years !! I got wondering about it's age, done some research and got conflicting dates, about 1907, then found that in 1905 on they stamped the model as 93 on the tang mine is model 1893 seems hard to pin a date down. i have a few old Winchesters and it is easy to get a date, but not Marlin ! does anyone have access to good information on Marlins ? the barrel is marked < Special Smokeless Steel > and sn. is 4436XX the old gal is in beautiful condition, has been refinished by an expert and is a good shooter. i am 73 years old and anything that is older than me and still works good is a wonder !! i would appreciate any help.

frontier, The Blue Book of Gun Values only goes to 1906 for old Marlins, with serial number 355300.
The Blue Book refers other Marlin serial number questions th the Buffalo Bill Museum.
Website - http://www.bbhc.org There's a $45 fee for research.
Hope this helps - Welcome to The Handloaders Bench!!!
