I have fallen in love with single shots-again.  I have Encores, Contenders and my prize is a K95 Stutzen.  If there are others who enjoy the single shots, let me hear from you.

Of all the rifles I have ever owned, the Ruger #1 is one I have had little experience with.  It's a beautiful rifle with great lines but I just haven't jumped on one...yet:wink:

My single shot battery exists of 2 Encore frames with the .50 BP, .204 Ruger, MGM .257 Bob, MGM .260, factory .308 & factory .30-06 barrels-all rifle.

I own a TCR83 with double  triggers in .308 & .223.

I have a Contender carbine with a custom shop .223 bull barrel and a .17 HMR sporter barrel with sights (going to be for sale)

And I have a Blaser K95 Stutzen in .308 with an extra .243 & .222 barrel.

That seems like it may be a bit too many...

Does 22 Ruger #1's ranging from .22 Hornet to .416 Rigby and 45-70 count? Must also add a custom .223 "walkabout" based on the #1 action plus a Browning B-78 in 30-06. I hunt with them too.  A couple that don't shoot well for whatever reason are scheduled to be donors fpr cartridges Ruger does not chamber as standard.

I would almost kill to get a Dakota #10 in 7x57 even if they are horribly expensive.

The "walkaout is probably the most fun. A Ruger #1 action with a 20" Remington Model 7 barrel. I like to hike the desert, find a comfortable spot and glass for coyotes. When I spot one, I try and do a stalk to see if I can get close enough for a shot. Don't much care if I shoot or not, the kick is in getting up close, if I can. So far, it's coyotes 10, me zip, but I am getting a lot closer than when I first started out.

I decided I would not shoot unless it was 50 yards or less even if I could take one at 200 yards with the rifle. The rifle will do 1.5" at 200 yards BTW. Not that bad for a lightweight.

My biggest complaint about the Ruger #1 rifls is trhey do a very lousy job of sealing the interior wood, the wopd at the end of the forearm where it butts against the receiver and under the rubber pad. My next complaint is that ridiculously too thin, too hard pad they put on their guns, I mean like on the .404 Jeffery or 416 Rigby? Come on Ruger, those'r elephanrt guns. You don't put a skimpy 3/8" pad on a cannon like that.

Oh well. At $6.25 a shot, I don't shoot the Rigby very much anyhow. :thumbs1:

I've got a first gen. contender and a G2 with barrels in 22hornet, 45LC/210, .357 max., 30/30, .223, all handgun.

Handi-rifles in .243, .308, 30-06 and of course the mandatory .22 singles for the kids.

single shots are great to relax by and spend a morning at the range deflating from a hectic work week.

Paul, I'm with you on the Dakota.  I'd love to have one and that's a great caliber for it.

I'm impressed with your #1 battery.  I have heard those same comments regarding the wood and the skinny pads.  I suppose that would cross your eyes when shooting a DG rifle...

Does a 2008 H&R break down 308 count?
It is scoped.
The part I like it does not eject the case out.
It comes out enough to catch the head. Saves me from picking them up. smacks

I have three Contender Frames, and a lot of 10 inch, 14 inch and carbine barrels.

The Contender is the reason that the 357 Maxium has survived the years after all of the problems with the revolvers.

I have a 444 Marlin Super 14 barrel that also will shoot 44 Mag. I take it handgun hunting every season in my neighbor hood.

Jerry

But that browning single shot is to die for. That thang is pretty. I'd kiss that thing every morning and every night if I had one.

I have many singleshot rimfires, but only one centerfire - my BRNO ZBK-110 break-open in .22 Hornet caliber.  Very tight shooting rifle!  It is laser-accurate with the 45-grain moly-coated V-max load I had bought from a gunshow vendor.  I have been trying to duplicate his load - same cases, think I have the same powder now, same bullet except non-moly.  I'm getting close, but not quite there.

I also really enjoy the single shot rifles. Fortunate to have picked up several great ones over the years...like my (original) Winchester 1885  lo-wall 22 LR w/ #5 octagonal bbl...like new...also another original 1885 lo-wall w/ single set trigger, beautiful wood..in a 17 Ackley Hornet...like new and deadly...an original 1885 218 Mashburn Bee lo-wall...like new...I have a new 1885 Winchester Hi-wall special edition #40 of 100 in a 38-55. and totally beautiful... and to top them off, I have a Quigley Sharps Pedersoli in 45-70 w/ the mid-range vernier sight and hooded front sight w/ inserts.

I shoot them all and have a ball at the range. They are my pride and joy and are lot of fun to shoot...and as expected, they are extremely accurate   at 100 yds.

It sure is fun to set at the range and slow fire, taking time for each shot and get tight groups from all holes touching with the 17 Ackley and 218 Bee as well as small groups with the 38-55 & 45-70 (2-1/2 to 4 inch groups at 100 yds..(benched)

The .22 low-wall shoots tight groups (one hole all shots touching @ 50 yds) with Wolf Match rifle ammo.

They all have heavy barrels ...4 are octagon and 1 is heavy round so there is some weight to keep them rock steady.

There ain't a lot of us around that shoot the singles...but we sure can have a lot of fun and generally hit what we aim at, since we don't get a second chance.

regards

Winnebago

love ? single shots ? ummmm..... honestly it's beyond love for me ( from a very nice single shot trap 12 gauge all the way down to the humble smoke poles ( the original load yer own single shot )i actually have no idea how many calibers i have in single shots but if i have a bolt or a auto (pistol or rifle)i prolly have it in a single shot as well ( in one form or another ) contenders, encores ,handi rifles even the trim lil stevens favorites ..it is after all the first shot that counts ( back up shot is nice too but ..if i do my job it should rarely be needed )i'd rather not be lulled into relying on a back up shot or 29 back up shots lolz i also figure i owe it to the critter to make it as quik n painless as possible just plinkin is for cans n crap and while i admit i have accidentally touched off both barrels before usually it's one shot per pull .......even some of the bolts actions i put a single shot floorplate in lolz
