-6,

I agree with you, my family has been a shooting family forever, my brother and I did the BB gun thing when we were still little kids, then on to gun clubs and so on. I have been hi powered rifle shooting since I was 14 or 15. My grandparents were farmers, they were hunters.

I grew up in a military family, so I was taught respect for a fiream and also how to use it. We lived in many countries, so I got to hunt in those countries.

In the army I was taught how to shoot paper target with the M14, then my hunting skills were used when I went across the pond.

There is a place for both of these skills and one compliments the other.

Jerry

Picked up an M1A a few yrs back and it is my "truck gun" now. Nothing like having plenty of firepower riding behind you. wc

I agree! Small groups are hard to come by. Getting the right load with the right rifling, chamber, etc is also key.

And this is a lowly AK,in .223 Remington, made by Izhmash in Russia. There are more....

now get yer boots on . . .

I've got a target  that is plain white ,with an orange 2" dot for a bullseye

and with my out of the box ruger m77 300winmag shooting handloads of 165 gr barnes sitting on top of 75gr of rl22

 its got all 5 inside the orange at . . . 300yrds

I had the range master sign and date it ,could'nt believe it my self.

at 100yrds this rifle will give me smiley:cool: faces pretty consistently

now I'm not a great shot ,but I believe I am a good shot.

in the hands of the right shooter I think this thing would be much tighter

Having said all that, I think I got a one in a million out of the box ,

I know a fellow that can't hold 2 inches at a 100 with the exact same make and model of rifle

Let me blow my horn, I was sighting in my rem. 22/250 w/semi bull brl, just put a 6x 18 bushnell on it and a friend from town showed up. He and I play poker and he is good. He bet me I couldn't hit a dime at 100yds (1.00 dollar) so the bet was on. He took a dime and ducked taped it to a board and with a magic marker circled the dime.

First shot drilled it dead center, Oh my now we are in the zone, had to retrive the dime and double or nothing same results and I want to double again, he said no and bet $5.00 that I could not hit it again, well I am the proud owner of a $7.00 dime.

Just thought I would I share the fun, I did not do anything great but the weapon preformed well.

You guys are messing with my head. Have only fired my 700 twice using cheap Norinco rounds at 250 yds. Will have to get serious and post results. wc

I had a Polytech M14s, it shoot better than my service rifle. I eneded up giving it to my brother, who worked it up and is doing really good groups with it. These Chinese rifles are not junk as people claimed. I wished I had kept the Polytech, then I would have kept it in the van for just in case.

I was up shooting my 25-06 a couple weeks ago with some 100gr SMK's. Pulled the first shot so went down and marked it. I'd been shooting to much that day and the arthritus in my shoulder was hurting bad. Anyway I went back and fired four more shots and did the first bug hole I've ever shot. Four shot's into .111".

I have had a few 1/2" rifles years past but every one was a 22 centerfire. Two 223's and a 222 Rem.

EDIT: BTW, this rifle usually hangs around 1" with 117gr Hornady's.

My go to "truck gun" is a Norinco M1A sitting beside an "M" SKS and with the 700 nestled next to it. And my wife says I am a gun nut--don't know where she gets that idea. wc

At the hunter training course, I was the only guy their without a p/u truck and had my significant other taking the class.

I like my Honda Element, good mileage, can haul a lot as well as a light trailer.

Katie, well enough said.

Just trying out some $14.99 Remington 150gr PSP Core-LOKT bullets I bought at Dunham's. I put up a bottom of a Pizza Hut cardboard, with a small black "bullseye" made with a magic marker. Did very well for a Saiga .308!! 5 shot group.... NEARLY 1/2".

And a closer look.

I pulled the bullet on one and it looks a LOT like BL-C(2) that I have and I measured it at 46.4 grains. It had a Remiongton 150 gr power soft point bullet which is flat base. I seem to have difficulty getting a boat tail to perform as well as the flat base bullets I have. I alos had a one hole shooter in .223 that was like that. It was a Savage and it could shoot one hole groups, but with Hornady SP with the flat base. Boat tail bullets just would not group in there as tight.. Go figure!

I think there are more "Half Inch" rifles out there than people realise, because the vast majority if shooters simply aren't as good as their rifles......

Here's my Winchester Model 75T .22LR target rifle (1939 manufacture), 100 yards using a vintage 6X Weaver scope and Winchester Dynapoint bulk ammo!

I can't do this every shot - the Rimfire Gods smiled on me that day.  Both groups are right at a half inch.

I had a Ruger M77 (old tang-safety model) in .22-250 that shot a couple 100 yard 3/8" groups using some handloads from a gunshow vendor.  It shot consistent one-inch groups using Remington factory ammo.  Wish I hadn't had to sell it - got to needing the money more than the rifle.  Doncha just hate when that happens......

Get to thinking and I've had some memorable target's.

These first two photo's are of the same 25-06 as above but with 117gr Hornady's and shot at 200yds. Squares on the target printed out 7/8" sq for some reason. 5 shot's in each target

Hopefully these next two are of my 243 after a ton of work on that junk Remimgton comp stock. 75 gr Hornady V-Max at 100yds. 3 shot's each target. Taped tasrget is a reused one. I call that thrifty the ex calls it cheap!

And the last are from my 6.5-06 when I was working up a load with the 140gr SMK. 3 shots each target
