I love mine,never had a bad one.
They take a likin, and keep on tickin.
I hear a lot of bad "press" on the net about them that I don't understand.
True honest American workhorse in my opinion.

I've got 2. A Ruger #1 Tropical in .416 Rigby, and a Model 77 Stainless in .30-06. I like both of them, but I wish I could get the '06 to group better than this. I've tried every trick in the book. But it still shoots "minute of Ruger". The .416 does much better. billt
This is the Rigby.

I have 4 Ruger rifles. No problems at all with function. Accuracy is good enough, and sometimes real good.
Over the years I've come to wish that the rings were not made integral to the receiver. I'd rather use standard bases and rings. Other than that, I like my Rugers.

I have the Model 77 Mark 2 in LH SS but had it rebarreled to 240 Wby. It will shoot the Hornady 95 gr SST with Rel 22 into 3/4 inch groups at 100 yard and sometimes smaller. I did replace the trigger with a fully adjustable after market which really helped. This is one of my favorite deer rifles.

Rugers - like them!
Pro's - good value, decent wood, LOTS of calibers available
Con's - trigger (of course that's usually the case with any factory rifle), monopoly perse' on the scope rings - decent design though, can't take the bolt apart with our Merck tool - prohibits easy disassembly and cleaning
I've had two rugers in my lifetime - a 300 Win. Mag, and my 257 Roberts. My father also has a GP-100 in 357 mag. All have been good shooters and my 257 Roberts is one of my favorite deer rifles. Only complaint with the GP 100 is that the cylinder is "tight" for reloads. You have to really size the brass. Reloading for 2 357 mags I found this out. My smith 357 would accept the reloads easy, the Ruger would not. Tighter specs are something to be proud of but I had to check the Ruger first and if it worked in that then the target loads would work in my 357 smith as well.
Rifles, absolutely no complaints other than the above. My 257 Bob with Leuppy Vari-X III 1.5-5X

Bea and Mountaineer..Great looking rifles!!! I am growing extremely fond of this 25-06 Rem I have in the cabinet. It is the older tang safety but I`ve been shooting well under an inch with it and factory ammo!!! This booger is gonna shine with a good handload.I`ve got so many irons in the fire right now I haven`t had a chance to het after it and the AI should be here befor too long too.

I like ruger prety well !
same complaint as everyone else though ! The mark 2 trigger sucks and if you buy a hard kicker, the recoil pad is only margionaly softer than the wood !. My mk 2 is a .257 roberts and its the RL model (ultra light) I put a timney trigger in her , and free floated the barrel before it would shoot real well, and it is still load fussy but with the VX3 2.5 X 8 it makes an excelent rife for packing in tight spaces and up and down steep hills.
I also have a tang safty .308 that is like new, and the only advantage I see to this version is the trigger. It was the easiest trigger job ever did. I will probably trade this one fo a 300 win some time soon , and as far ad the brand is concerned I have no probalen with another ruger, but by the time I replace the trigger i could almost buy a Model 70 or the New CDL remington...tj3006

TJ,
How is recoil on that UL in 257?
I'm sure thinking hard about one for my 11 year old.

This is my 25-06 Rem ,M77.Some of you fellas have seen pics of this one.It is the Ruger I traded for that Rem 742 Woodsmaster in 30-06 that I hated.I haven`t started loading for it yet, but is the next on my list ,even befor my 25-06 Ackley Improved.I got four boxes of the Winchester 115 Ballistic Silvertip with it when I got it.It shoots about as accurate as I am capable of.I`ll be keeping this one.. I think it`s gonna have to lose my 6x18 Redfield on it and put it back on my270 though.I`ll probably break into some of my project fund and get either a Leupold or a Nikon for it..

I think the little RL in .257 would be just great for a youth rifle. ! The load I shoot has quite a blast , but with a couple grains less powder it shots real sweetly. I take a few lady frends shooting and when I do little robbie allways comes along. I let them shoot my model 70 featherweight .308 or the little ruger ,and nobody has ever been intimidated by the.257. If you hand load use H-414. I shoot the100 grain barnes tripple shock, and the top load out of the barnes manual gives me 3140 FPS, from the 20 inch ruger. You could back off a couple grains and still have a fine general purpose load for the roberts. I recomend it highly ! pluss it carres like a 30/30. !

Gotta agree with TJ again (I tend to agree with him a lot )
The 257 Bob, though not as common as it used to be in years past, is perhaps one of the best light recoiling calibers that is still legitimate for big game use.
For deer-sized game up to 300 yards it's gonna be tough to beat. Accurate? Yep, most definitely with sub 1 moa groups common in the various loads I've tried. Handling? Easy and comfortable. Recoil? What recoil? To me, the little Bob's "pop" is around 243 level with better bullets and more umph to it in my opinion.
If I had to buy a rifle for a short-framed hunter the Ruger 77 in 257 Bob would be probably my first choice or something around it like perhaps a 7 mauser. JMO.
