power pistol, nosler 150 grain sporting handgun hp, cci 500 small pistol primers, federal brass trimmed to .840, col 1.121.
started at 8.0 grains and went up to 8.9 grains in .1 grain increments.
best accuracy was found at the 8.3 and 8.4 groupings.
8.3: 5 shots, benched & bagged, 25 yards.
1204 f/s, 6 sd
1.025"
8.4: 1201 f/s, 2 sd
.975"
10-shot proofing groups done on different day.
8.3: 1170 f/s, 5 sd.
3.0" average group
8.4: 1182 f/s, 6 sd.
2.65" average group
i wanted a hard-hitting, ultra-accurate load that would be major power-factor legal (was gonna play gun-games, but very limited opportunity for that in s.d., so i never did). both the 8.3 and 8.4 loadings never went below 175.5 power factor, regardless of outside conditions, and hovered close to 180.
as far as accuracy goes, it isn't 'rifle-accurate', but for an open-sighted combat handgun, i thought it was fantastic, running right on the heels of my 1911's, and outshooting a springfield. if you wanted to do bullseye competition or something, a red-dot or some sort of a scope would probably cut group sizes in half or better.
the 8.8 grain loading also showed a lot of potential, but both the 8.7 and 8.9 were nothing spectacular, so i opted for the slightly weaker 8.4 loading because i liked the wider node. i am sure i could have worked into the mid-9's for charge weight, but the 40 is such a high-intensity loading at even the lower charges, i didn't feel it warranted - even though i think the near-bomb-proof sig could handle it.
good luck!

Hey Stacey.I appreciate it bro.I am shooting the Hornady155`s .Ill make sure to stay a few tenths below your maxs. I derned near bought some of those Nosler 150 sporting bullets or whatever they call em when I was ordering from Midway but opted for the Hornadys out of loyalty.
Ive got 200 rounds of brass and think Im gonna go check em for length.Im a bit irritated at the moment and it`ll help to go get on the ball with my 40 cases.
Appreciate your data bud.If you ever want to use IMR 4831 in your 300 and want some data Ill be happy to repay the favor. It`s with 150`s and 165`s Nosler BT`s and Hornady SST`s,168 Sierra MK`s too..

OOps
Just looked at my Hornady book.I can run that hot and a little more.

Fella's;
Here's another .40 load that works for me. When I developed this, my criteria was to duplicate the FBI load in my gun. I'm not sure what the Fibbi's use for weaponry these days, & might not even use the .40 anymore as far as I know, but the most effective bullet weight & velocity according to them is: 180 grain bullets at 980 fps.
To duplicate that in my H&K USPc .40, with very decent accuracy, I came up with: Winchester brass, CCI primers, 180 grain Berry copper washed lead bullets and 8.7 grains of Blue Dot. This is with a nominal 3.5" barrel length in the compact H&K.
I use the Winchester 180 grain SXT's for carry, they chrono at 945 in my gun & will shoot to the same POI, at any practical range, as my practice ammo.
