first of all hello to everyone, I dont and never have reloaded but have watched my brother do it. I came across this forum serching for info on a 1911 style weapon. I was in phoenix in Oct and my father gave me a satin finish 45acp. it has Mp express combat commandr printed on it and was made in calif. I have searched everywhere and have not come  up with any info on it, all i really want to know about it is if it can handle +P ammo loads. it looks identical to a 1911 style colt combat commander but does not have colt anywhere on it,  any help on information would be great as far as who  the manufactuer might be. I dont have a dig cam or id post a pic, im a veitnam vet so i do know what a U.S Army 45 looks like but this one has me over the barrel.  it looks exactly like this one but has MP Express combat commander stamped on it
I forgot to mention it is also ambidextres, as my dad was left handed and so am i so i guess its why i got it, I do also know a few leo's wanted it badly but my dad wouldnt sell it. I have shot it and it shoots perfect

The thing about your handgun, is I dunno.....not quite the answer you were looking for but it's true with all of them.  Handloading for this gun (.45ACP) is quite easy and can be somewhat repetitive.  Work up loads slowly to the point where you get the velocity your after or the brass/primers start to show failure(then back off the load).  I would start with some medium grade powder(not to slow and not to fast), maybe AA#7(10.5gr) with a 185gr Hornady working to 13.4gr of powder-this should give you about 1181fps in a 5" barrel(definitely +P stuff there)!

Watch your seating depth and the amount of crimp on the bullet/brass and you'll be fine.

As far as running down to the store and grabbing a box of +P stuff to run through your handgun?  It won't be the same powder that's available to reloaders(a blend of some kind), and the pressure will be well within SAAMI specs(safe).  Just get ready to shell out some serious cash feeding your handgun this stuff!

Scott (save that brass) B

If it has a steel frame, I would have no worrys about running +P ammo thru it. If it is aluminum, I would perhaps use +P for a defense load, but practice with standard pressure ammunition. Give it the magnet test.

According to my research info, I believe this pistol was made by Mp Express Pomona, CA and made in the late 80's by a couple of German gunsmith who were trying to make a cheap affordable 1911 to complete with Colt . They made a copy of the Gold Cup also. If I'm not mistaken these pistols sold for around 200 bucks or maybe a little more. Regular Colt 1911 clips should work with your pistol. These pistols resemble the 1911 AMT's

Thank you bea175, You have to be correct in my eyes because you said it was made in Pomona and yes its stamped on there and I never mentioned pomona calif I only said Calif. anyway thank you very much for your info and yes it does have a steel frame but not a 5" barrel its 4" so it will be a little easyier to carry,(ccw) But it still brings more questions, and yes regular 1911 clips work on it, He gave me a military ammo can full of ammo so I shouldnt have to buy any ammo for a while but I will save the brass, I'd like to learn to reload them, Whats a good reloader to buy I want a quality one, so i wont have to upgrade.

1-Questin: why did loe's and detectives want it from my dad and why cant you find them anywhere?

Thank you, I spoke with my x brother in law in phoenix (a reloader and part time gunsmith) he said Dad had lots of custom work done on it and thats why his leo friends wanted it, trigger mechanisims  polished, acurized (whatever that means)and thats why it shoots so well, he shoots match at black canyon shooting range(my brother in law) north of phoenix, he told me it will handle any commerical + P loads availabe on the market, but dad mostly shot GI ball ammo out of it cause he had the ammo case full of them. he also said it has no bad history that he knows of to cycle any  different bullets on the market, Hollowpoints, wadcutters etc.  I hope this thread helps anyone else with a MP Express 45acp, Ive searched for 2 months on info and so far this will be the only forum I know of that has any info on it.

Quote from my brother in law says Dont ever sell it. and Dad gave me the savage model 77 with it because it was what he let me use and I got my first Elk with it 308 cal. model.

Thank you so much for your info and time to answer my questions bea175
