| Anyone have a good mild 45 colt load. I prefer lead over jacketed.

| W231 or Hodgons Univerasl Clays can be pretty much substituted for the Uninque load. I prefer the Univerasl Clays as it is a lot cleaner burning

| i always prefer 231 in my light loads.7gr works good in a 44 mag with a 240 gr lead bullet.should be close to the same in the 45c.

| The first time I used the "new" Unique I was amazed at how clean burning the stuff was. If you haven't used it in a while it might be worth giving it a whirl.

| With 231 on hand you're probably not missing anything. That's excellent stuff. Just thought I'd mention that Unique seems to have changed from the "explosive dirt" it used to be.

I go down to about 7 grains of Unique in 45 Colt with a 250 gr RNFP and use a firm crimp to promote a complete burn. This is my cowboy action load, somewhere just below 700 fps out of a 5.5 inch barrel.
Alliant lists 6 - 7.5 grains of Unique for Cowboy Action loads and up to 8 grains for a standard load (which is a bit snappy for me in my light Colt clones) with a 250 grain lead bullet.

9 grs of unique with a 255 is spot on the velocity of the original colt load.
8 grs of 231 with a 200 gr bullet is a mild one yet plenty accurate.
5 grs of trailboss with a 255 is ok for pattycake recoil but falls a bit short in the accuracy dept.

Probably falls a bit short of the targets, too!

| Spurrit, actually that load of trailboss, behind a remington bulk 250 lead bullets shoots pretty fair out to 35 yds.

| How much does it drop at that range? Are you using .451 or .452 diameter bullets?

Don't know how much it drops. Still don't need any hold over with the sights on my New Vaquero. Just set the sight where you want the bullet to hit and yank the trigger.
I shoot .452, and .454 sized bullets.

I use 7.0 grs. of Trail Boss with a cast 160 gr. lead bullet for 900 FPS. This is my Cowboy Action Shooting load. These are shot in Ruger Bisley's and an Uberti Winchester '73. Velocity is slightly higher in the rifle.

| 5.8 grains of Trail Boss under a 250gr cast bullet. This is a CAS load - supposedly gives about 727fps. It's mild, manageable and very easy on the brass (very little fouling). Potential for good accuracy in the right gun. I regulated my front sight for a 265gr GCFP bullet at about 850fps, so this Trail Boss load shoots about 7" high at 25 yards with that gun. It'll print in the 10-ring if I hold low and to the right.

I'm using 9.6 grains of that new "unique" under a Speer 200 grain "flying ashtray" its moderate not really mild but not bad and quite accurate. I haven't worked a 200 swc load up for my Long Colt just as yet but i'm luking around to find one my self.
