I bought a Used Lee Pro 1000 and  have a few questions.

1.  There is a "V" shaped wire that is attached to the case carrier that seems to do nothing.  It comes from the carrier in the front near the front verticle support.  Anyone have an idea what this does or how it is supposed to work?

2.  Where can I find a good exploded view and parts listing?  I looked on the Lee site and came up empty.

I generally like Lee equipment (I was accused by a JO on one forum of being a shill for them!), but I've never had a Pro 1000. The impression I get is the Pro 1000 is ideal for those who like to tinker with their equipment, and not so hot for those who just want to sit down and crank 'em out.

Sorry, not much help here.

doh!! i just spotted the item it's called the primer gate, part number tr2445.i've loaded tons of 38 spl ammo as an instructor, and the major problem that i've had is with the primer feed, you have to keep the chute full and watch to see that the primer advances.other than that i had the powder disk stick a couple of times now that can cause some headaches of major proportions, but once i spotted it and cleared it i had no more problems with it.
reloading can be economical, but you must keep awake because mistakes can be dangerous.

Dave,
can you tell me how this GATE works?

It does not seem to be connected at the lower end in my photo.  The upper end goes into the shell carrier area.  So I'm not sure how it is supposed to work.

I got a lee 1000 as my first press.Used. Now its a bench ornament. And Charley is right , if you like to tinker with your loader instead  of loading shells, by all means buy a lee.
After I gave up on my lee 1000,and I bought a lee turret press, thinking it would be the latest and greatest, .....wrong. After about 500 pistol shells it wouldn't index properly. I adjusted it as they said to in there online fix it page. As a matter of fact, I adjusted it until I stripped the little plastic P.O.S that rides on the indexing rod.
I'll have to send it back to Lee before the warranty runs out
I can still use it, but I just have to turn it by hand to each die.

I bought a Lee Classic Cast Turret, after reading several reviews. It is an excellent tool, much stronger and smoother than the original Lee turret press.

Also not produced from castings imported from China like the RCBS presses are.

Charley, have you had any issues with that little indexing thingy? ( technical lingo)

No, because I haven't used it. I batch process instead. I did install it and cycle the press when I set up, and it seemed to work ok. I wonder if it could be made in aluminum sheet instead of the plastic it comes in. Still soft enough to distirt if needed, but longer lived than the plastic piece.

Thats what I ended up doing as well, batch that is. Any more I find myself using my lee challanger single stage the most. I think I'd trade all three Lees for a Rockchucker.

because of the way I load I dont prime on machine but my 1000 does not have that mine may be an early press.

as to the parts call lee and they will send you some parts.free.they do wear and you cant be a brute.I have used mine for yrs and no new parts but I do have spares thatr

came with the new machine.the Lees do need "tinkering"but you dont have to pay $4/500 for the machine and I suppose nowadays people are not used to being mechanics and fixing there own machines.[my son is one]cant repair a car or now whats wrong with it:confused::thumbs:

Ive considered sending the 1000 back to Lee to have it refurbished, but as pre their website they charge 1/2 the cost of new (their price) which is almost $200,if I remember correctly. Unfortunately at the end of it all I would have is an brand new out dated Lee.

Dont get me wrong I do like most everything on the Turret press. Removable tool head, quick change over, and the fantastic spent primer drop tube.

dude:  I have a pro 1000.  I load .40 on it.  If the V wire you are talking about is that big bar looking v thing in the foreground of your picture I have no idea.  I just went and looked at mine and it most definitely does not have that part.  is it something that the former owner put on it?  So far i've loaded about 500 rounds on mine with minimal problems.  The ones I had were of my own doing.  Once I got press adjusted it worked fine.  I will say this is my first press and that was proably not the better way to go though.  Theres to much going on at one time to watch everything. But it seems to work ok so far.  thanks bill

i use three ,i dont get in a hurry and i watch the primer trough hard , i go way slower than however many u "can " load in an hour, none of mine look quite like ur's , i believe it's all in the ram -mine has a longer keyway cut into it ,it catches 99% of the primers fine ,a new ram with the slot should have it in fine shape ( lee does have the ram for less than a re-furbish job )i load alot of 38 & 45 lead bullets as well as 9 mm ( and what ever else fits -alot slower going on the .222&.223)personally i've had decent luck with lee ,when i get a new press it will probally be the new iron turret press they make ,i used my turret press for pistols until i got the first pro 100,now one is set up for large primers another for small and the third is dedicated to 38 spcl only .one used one came with a beat up carrier and many companies sell whole set up carriers cheaper than lee ,

if it wasnt for the small slot/hole in ur ram i would of guessed that the "wire " was a "too" bent z-bar ,if it is a deflector (and it isnt working ) try a small piece of stiff tape stuck on it and bent to help deflect the primers into the base ( a trick i use on my turret press's primer arm to help deflect the primers for it doesnt do as well as any of my pro's ) g'luck !

I had a Lee Turret press a long time ago, it worked O.K. When I had to tinker with it all the time Idecided to go with  Dillons for my progressives. I had a Rockchicker a long time before the Lee and it is still running great. Quality equipment is hard to beat.

Today, I would consider the Hornady Lock and Load presses instead of Dillon these days, but I have a huge investment in my 3 Dillions.

Jerry
