Anyone out there loading these bullets?  Are your bullets getting damaged by the seater plug?  I am using RCBS carbide dies and have even purchased the Gold Dot 185 and 230grn seater plugs (which work fine), but when it comes to the 230grn XTPs, I'm crushing them pretty bad.   Anyone else  out there using RCBS dies and loading these bullets?  What seater plug are you using?

Could you scan one or take a picture of the area that is being crushed? I have used these bullets in 45 ACP and 44 Mag with no problems, I use RCBS and Hornady dies in both of these caliber, I am using the plu that came in the dies.

sometimes when seating and crimping an ill fitting seat plug will damage the soft exposed lead tip.i prefer to make it 2 seperate operations

+1 with Geezer

Seating by itself should not be exerting enough force to damage any hollowpoint.  Only crimping would apply enough force to do so, but crimping should not be touching the bullet tip either.

I now do as Geezer suggests, seat in one operation and then crimp in another.  I use a Lee factory crimp die for that which besides taper crimping it will also size the outside of the case to ensure it chambers properly.

If you want to try to fix your current set up, I would suggest backing the seating lug and and die way back and start the whole adjustment process over fresh.  You may have the seating plug to far out and are having to screw the die in too far to get it seated which then severely overcrimps.  But if you remove the crimp while seating and then remove the seating stem while crimping ther eis no way you can damage the hollowpoint.

Another +1 with Geezer, I crimp as a separate die and action. I learned to do that many long years ago, about the time I bought a Dillon 450.
