does anybody have a published or non-published load for a 454casull(SRH)using a 200gr bullet  barnes or otherwise , can't find it for 454

I have data for the s/w460

and then the next question would be is the difference the the s/w has the twist gain rifling  allowing it to stabilize that light of a bullet

the gain twist wasnt for the bullet weight,it was because of the velocity and/or pressure.ust the middle loads for your favorite powder and a 250 gr bullet as a starting load with the 200 gr.

Worked alot with the .454 but have never gone any lighter then the 300 gr. XTP Mag in any of my load development.  Currently have the 395 gr. Cast Performance LBT solid going in my latest loads.  Just guessing but I'd imagine you'd be topping out in the 42, 43, 44 gr. range with H110 and that light a bullet.  I don't know of any that are loading really light for the round.  Had a gun mag around here somewhere that did development comparisons between the .454 and .460 back when it came out.  Would imagine that 200 gr. would have been one of the bulles used since the .460 was designed to rev up the fps.  Will see if I can trip across it.

I've never been able to fill a tag with this revolver for various reasons.  It's been with me on several hunts but have always had to settle on the rifles because of shot distances.  And then the rare occasions with something does come close, it's never with me.  Just the luck.  One of these trips something will venture into Casull range when I've got it with me.

Good luck with development.

update after a day at the range ,sunny 70 deg .light wind at my back

(translation perfect shooting weather) shot a bunch of(454 casull) 240 gr and 300 gr

hornady xtp mags nice groups ,definitely tighter groups the higher the charge went ,

i was expecting the opposite, now comes the physics question,

why do the 300's feel more like a push  and the 240's a very sharp snap,

the reason i ask this is because with bolt rifles and even my desert eagle the heavier
the bullet the harder the recoil is what i normally experience.

NOTE: being as I'm still pretty much still:redneck: a caveman and all,

simple answers are always OK ,sometimes  i miss the obvious

thanks for any and all input

777, Maybe it has to do with more barrel time for the heavier bullets?? Could be there's a physics major out there who has some input.

Just email your request to Barnes and they sill send you back a really nice PDF file that has all the data for your caliber.

http://www.barnesbullets.com/resources/contact-us/

I shoot a 300RUM with the Barnes the 168gr TSX. Barnes sent me all of the data, because the bullet is bigger than what I expected.

Great company to deal with

Jerry

Midwayusa has Magtech .452 all copper 225gr bullets @$82.99/100.I ran into a similar problem with Barnes 250gr .458 diameter bullets for my XLR 45-70 so I contacted Barnes for some info on 2 of the powders I have on hand then I called a tech at Hodgdon who told me to use the 300gr loading data and when I asked about pressure he said  start with a beginning load and work up but I wouldn't get any excess pressure since it's a lighter weight bullet. I have 2 TC Encores a 15 inch chambered in 454 casull and a 20 inch bullberry rifle barrel chambered in 460mag which I load 240gr JHP Sierra & Hornaday bullets   using w296 and h110.When CP was in Wyoming the staff told me they received  a canister of powder with a W- 296 label but they noticed it was loose & under it was a H-110 label they surmised the 2 had to be alike.I loaded some 240gr bullets in 454 using 36gr of h110 ,they were very accurate but then someone on another forum said I was using too much 110 so I started loading downward and shot groups started stringing, I went back to the accurate load.

Thanks for the info , I guess i'm off bullet shopping again "darn" i guess that means i'll need more powder, which means more brass and primers ect. ect. . .

FYI :   w296 and h110 are the exact same powder made in the same factory ,just a different label

Here's another link to some great shootin' projectiles. http://www.beartoothbullets.com/bulletselect/index.htm

Go to the left side and scroll down to the .45LC / .454 Casull and look at some of the heavier projectiles.  I use the 330gr for plinking and the 355gr for whackin' stuff that needs whackin'!!  These are gas-checked, which means minimal leading(minimal cleaning necessary), and since they are lead(hardened but still lead) they expand wonderfully inside feral hogs and such!

Scott (bigger is better to me) B

Thanks for the information on beartooth.I was planning on using heavy lead until our rino gov &  fish & game commission decided to listen to the  the unverified information from the anti hunting groups and banned all lead ammo in the condor plus zone where the majority of feral hogs are located. Now I have to use unproven all copper bullets. On 6/28/08 a non-lead ammo clinic was held at Laguna Seca Rifle Range in CA.A hunter brought his 223 cal rifle with jacketed lead ammo & convinced the sponsor to set the targets at 100 yards instead of 50.He fired his own reloaded  ammo & covered his group with a quarter then he was given non-lead ammo with 2 bullet weights to fire for the first time. His best group using the non-lead ammo was 4  plus inches. The shooter said this ammo is expensive and pathetic in performance creating problems for ca hunters. To justify the use of non-lead ammo the sponsor brought up the effects to condors and humans exposed to lead. The scare tactics didn't work because the shooter was well prepared and countered with information from the Center For Disease Control that there are no known cases of lead exposure to humans from wild game shot with lead.He then asked what will happen in 2 years when the condor is still testing positive for lead will there be a repeal of the lead ban on hunters or will all hunting stopped in CA ?He didn't receive an answer to his question. A retired game biologist  said calif doesn't know the source of the lead in the tissues of condors.Hunters are being blamed but there is lots of residual lead in the environment from years of the use of tetra ethyl lead used in gasoline for vehicles and aircraft.
