Does anyone have load data for laser cast 158gr RNFP  .38 special and .357 magnum?

I went to Oregon Trail web site and found nothing.  None of my books have anything.

I plan to use Unique powder.

Thanks

Any 158gr lead bullet data should work just fine.

I like 231 Powder, have used it for many years.

The starting load should be something like 3.2 grains of 231 and the max load should be 3.7 grains for 38 Spl.

For Unique, I would consider a 3.9 grain load sort of middle of the road and a good starting point.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

Speer #13 lists 3.8/4.3 for lead 158s with 231. 4.0/4.7 for Unique.

Life is too short, I don't always use the Internet for reference, but do keep notes and old loading manuals.

158gr Lead bullets

Bullseye       Start 2.8      Max 4.2

Unique          Start 3.4     Max 5.1

231               Start 3.5     Max 4.9

SR-4756        Start 4.2     Max 5.5

HP38             Start 2.6     Max 4.3

Blue Dot        Start 5.9     Max 7.8

These are from my Lyman Reloading Handbook #47. There is a #48 and #49 out, but I find this one still works well with all of my reloading, I cross checks the loads with the Internet and other manuals.

Plus the Bullet Makers will give the data for a specific caliber, and the powder people do this also. I have loading data for all of the Barnes bullets that I use, the same with Sierra.

Jim,

I use a Lyman 150gr WC (Bullet Mold #358091) cast from my WW Plus alloy, most of the time I use 3.5 gr of 231. In the past I have used Bullseye, 3.2 grains. I size to .358 and use 50/50 lube or some of my home made stuff. If you are going to cast your own and want some really consistent bullets, only use one cavity of the mold and have a really tight routine on your casting methods. It does make a difference, but you have to try it to see if it works for you.

My pistol from target shooting is a S&W 586 with a 6 inch barrel, that had a trigger job done to it many years ago. But out of the box it was shooting tight groups. Because the purpose of target shooting is to punch paper, low velocities and low energy is not a problem.

Hope this helps,

Jerry

I have used thousands of lasercast bullets. They work very well and leading is minimal even at maximum velocity for lead bullets.Thier alloy is supposed to never lead a bore.I have never had any leading in anything I reload with thier bullets.I load for two 38s,one 357,one 44 mag and a 45lc.I dont really hotrod any of them but I do load hot now and then.Just treat them like a lead bullet and enjoy...Robin

231, Unique and Hodgon's Univerasl Clays are all pretty close to burn rates. However,I have found the Universal Clays is so much cleaner burning. I can run 300 + rounds through my revolver or semi and never get fouling problems that lock up the extractor ring or cylinder.

For all three powders Iuse 3.5 gr in the 38 and 4.5 in the.357 for all my cast the bullets. Can't see why Laser cast are any differnt.
