AR,This section is just beginning. You might also search the reloading for pistol section.Probably some decent 44 mag loads in there as well.

2 years ago i worked up some loads for a rcbs mould with the GC reamed out of it.i was gettin 1350 fps with 22 gr H110 from my 7.5 inch SBH. if you use the same starting load that is published for a jacketed bullet you should be OK.I did decide that the 250K was all i need for anything in KS.

I shoot many 44 Mag CBs in the Contender Super 14, a lot of them have no GC. This is my hunting pistol. One shot is all you need.
But check a lot of reloading manuals and work the load up from minimum.
Here is my load data for 300gr CB, Lyman #2 Alloy, magnum primer
Powder Start Load Max Load
2400 13.5gr 16gr
Blue Dot 10gr 11.5gr
Unique 8.5gr 12gr
I use 2400 powder more than the others. All disclaimers apply about hand loading.

one thing to expect.a light load with that bullet will shoot a lot higher at 25 yds than a heavy load with a lighter bullet.i shoot only 2 loads in my SBH.they both hit the same spot at 25 yds .a light load with a 300 gr will pack a wallop.a 1000 fps load may meet all your needs.i would rather use a lighter bullet for a light load.if you load the 300 to 1200 fps and a 240/250gr with 7 gr W231 to 900 fps you will have 2 loads that will hit fairly close. My theory is,if you have to adjust the sights from one load to another, when you get the gun out of the cabinet you may not be sure of where it is adjusted.

As you didn't state what power range you are wanting to load to I would suggest IMHO the following powders, For light target loads, 231, For mid-range loads, Unique, and for hunting loads, 2400. Refer elsewhere for specific charge weights and work up to max. loads very, very slow, but do not reduce 231 loads below recommended starting loads.

Makes real good sense to me, I should have also mentioned that we're getting a LOT more black bears in our area, and I want to make sure that I have a load that'll stop em quick (with proper bullet placement of course) Being in a wheelchair, I won't have much chance to move to a better angle for the shot.

I have some limits on my mobility, mostly arthritis in my feet and legs. So many times I set up a lawn chair where I think it will be a good spot, sit there and wait.
Now I just wait for all of the other hunter to be out there making noise, scaring the deer and the deer seem to come to me.

I'm figuring to do about the same (but my chair comes with me automatically ) My only problem is finding a comparatively healthy hunter that wouldn't mind gutting and dragging my deer (of course I'd share the meat) I live in the country and could hunt from my back yard, or from my wheelchair van ( I do have the permit from DEC)

If you want more bears there are ways to bring them in http://www.bearscents.com if it's legal in the state you reside in.I've seen piles of salmon & steelhead carcasses thrown near a blocked off road in siskiyou county calif, purposely shot doe & yearling left to decay to draw bears in plus other methods. When I was a wildlife mgt biology student a US Fish & Wildlife Predator & Rodent Control Agent gave me some stink bait for trapping my god that stuff stunk, had to make sure of the wind direction before opening my container. I hunt when I'm healthy enough to do it, this year I had to cancel an anterless elk hunt at the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in AZ for foot surgery(gout) can't put a hiking boot on,can't walk, stand or drive. We & friends like Colorado Mule Deer & Elk as they come preseasoned with Sage the animals reek of it and so did we since it gets in our vehicle and on our clothes.

I understand the severe foot problems, I was on canadian crutches for many years before I got in the chair. The info about the Mule deer and elk sounds really good though......Airborne!

One of our friends is a force recon usmc vet.He and his 2 sons are hunting near Craig,CO in a National Forest, they bought their cow & bull tags on line.Last year they hunted the Arapaho NF above steamboat springs and saw more moose than he's ever seen in the lower 48,he shot a large cow elk but the boys only saw spikes,1x2's,2x3's,etc but no 4x elk, they had 18 inches of snow & when they got up and out every morning there were fresh black bear tracks around their two campers.

Sako06 has some great loads. My favorite powder has been Herco and #9. Herco being the one I have shot the most. Very accurate from my Redhawk.
