250-270 gr cast swc, sized .452.

Depending on what your hunting, but 9 grs of unique will spit those out at 900 or better. 18 grs of 2400 should put you at around 1100. If you want something a bit more serious look at Hogdons LIL GUN data, its prooved some good accuracy for me.

Thanks Ranch..I have some 230 grain cast bullets..
I wanna try the heavier bullet you recommend.
They are to be used for feral hogs and I wanna take a deer with this pistol in the upcoming fall season..Majority of shots will be on porkers though.Actually  hunting with it and dispatching big porkers while still in the hog traps..
I like the sounds of a 270 grain swc..
flying ashtrays:wink:
btw,I also have a 45 acp cylinder for this pistol...what would you recommend for a cast bullet in 45 acp for the same purpose?I wanna limit velocity to about 750-800 fps though.

Gene you load those 230s with 9-10 grs of unique , 12 grs of bluedot, or up to 20 grs of 2400, they ain't built a hog that can hold one inside of it, shot anywhere from point blank to 75 yds.

Get you one of the rcbs 98swc molds for the 32, and either the rcbs 255kt, or the Scovill for the 45. You and your guns will be glad you did.

An adendem here. straight wheel weights , as is, or maybe with a lb of pure lead per 9lbs ww alloy make verry very good all round use bullets.

Hey Gene.  I like Cast Performance's 395 gr. WLNGC in my .454 Casull at around 1400 fps.  I choose heavy for caliber at a slower velocity because it tends to tame the sharp crack on the wrist that the fast and light loads exert.  I've shot this load alot but haven't got the opportunity in the field I need to actually get it on deer.  I shoot this brand bullet in the .44 too.  They've got a good reputation for accuracy.  I follow this heavy-slower line of thinking with all my revolver rounds.  I don't reload for the Colt, but imagine I'd toe the line with it, too.  I'd probably work up my hunting load around the 335 gr. WLNGC from CP.  A healthy dose of H110 or Lil'Gun would break 1200 fps easily in your revolver and slap the heck out of anything you get within range.  Good luck.  korey

Gotta second those loads. You could get away with using them under a 250 grain hard cast flat nose bullet, as well. Nice Ruger, BTW!

Hell I shot a cow elk in the head at 65 yds with a single six 22 mag and it dropped her. Don't need a lot of fire and belch for that sort of thing.

I also shot a 4 year old charolais bull at 20 yds between the eyes with a 45 colt loaded with a 255 cast swc, and 9 grs of unigue, that ended his reign of terror in a heartbeat. The butcher said they found that slug about 12 inches down his neck right along the vertabraei.

The 45 colt as originally loaded with the 250 gr bullets doing around 900 fps will handle alot more jobs than some folks might think. After all it did have a pretty good rep for takin horses out from underneath hostiles at 300 yds at one point in history.

Buddy of mine who grew up in Indiana told me that he saw more deer killed at night with .22's (and spotlights) than any other caliber. Didn't say it was legal - just that he'd seen it done.

I raised a big old boar pig in my younger days and the butcher killed him with a .22 magnum. Took 3 rounds and the pig squeeled, but the 3rd one hit the brain pan and he dropped like a sack of cement.

Slim I know for a fact the 22mag pistol won't do much but keep a bull moose on the ground until somebody gets there with something more substantial. My cousin shot him with the 06 I got to him first and was going to finish him off, but everytime I'ld pop him between the ears he'ld drop, groan , shake and try to get back up.

Man a live Sako, how does that brave man , have the courage to go out into such wild country.

Used to have a Blackhawk .45 such as yours and it was very accurate. Used Lyman's 454424 weighing 250gr. and 9gr. of Unique. Very acurate, and easy on the gun.
