What would you expect to see if you loaded the same bullet to the same velocity only changing the case.

Example .38spcl 4.0 Bullseye 158gr = 858fps

               .357  4.9 Bullseye 158gr     =858fps

Do you think it the .38 would be better since it got to working pressure quicker or do you think it would be gun specific? As in my gun likes load #1 and yours likes load #2? How about barrel length? Let's say the above numbers were obtained with a 4" barrel. If we then tried them in a rifle with a 20" barrel would the velocity spread be much different? Just something I've been thinking about lately and may have to do some experimenting.
