Well i went out and bought a taurus 327 magnum. I will tell you the truth (since i also have a sp 101) they lied when they said that the recoil would me more like the 38+p and not like the 357 magnum. It is just as bad as the 357 and after shooting three shots out of the 327, im ready to put it down. i have let several people shoot the pistol and they all agree with me. i normally put the first three shots in a inch grouping at 30 ft and the rest start climbing as i really start to think about the recoil when im pulling the triger. it actually hurts me to shoot the gun after the first three or four shots. As for a self defense round, it could really be a good choice. I would not change over from my 357 or any 40 or 45. i would take it over any 9mm, any day of the week.

as for the gun, i think that they have a good thing going, the gun shoots any 32 short, long or the 32hr magnum along with the 327 magnum. i have only shot the 327 magnum and 32 longs through it though. i havnt decided if i want to reload this round or not yet. i think that if i did, i would try to tone down the load a bit like what was done with the 357 for target practice and just keep the low recoil hollow points in the gun for self defense.

if anyone has any questions about the gun i will try to answer them but like i said before, i would just recommend keeping your 357 with the 38+p and not worry about this gun right now. maybe in a few more years when there are more guns and a bigger selection of ammo and reloading information out there, it might be worth checking out. i do wish they would chamber a lever action rifle in this round though, that would be fun.

I am sticking with my J frame and 38 +P ammo. I tried a 327 Mag and it's more than the 38 +P, with a very light pistol that weighs in at 12 ounces and short barrel, 1 7/8 inch, the first shoot would be a surprise to most people in a tense situation. I try to practice at least once a month and during this time of the year, 4 times a month or more. People have to teach themselves to not be surprised, as well as how to stand to shoot. Having a plaster board wall between you and a perp isn't very protective. The perp probably doesn't know that, but learn to use stance and decent flashlight.

As far as long guns, like shorty rifles and shotguns. Do a walk thru of your home at night with no lights on, flash light in hand, see all the corners that you can't see around or work around.

Currently my carry pistol is my J frame loaded with 38 +P Hydra Shoks, it is also near my bed at night. The other near by defense pistol in my Glock 37 in 45 GAP with Speer Gold Dots.

Just remember that you may have family members in the house and bullets do travel thru things.

I always figured that about the only thing the .327mag had going for it was that they could put one more cartridge in the small frame revolvers.

Sport,

That may be the only good reason. But unless there is more than 5 of them. I don't need any more ammo.

One shot, one kill,

My Chief's Special only holds 5 and I've never felt under-gunned. I wonder if the .327mag will go the way of the .45gap or if it will really catch on.

The GAP is getting a police force following, where the 327 Mag doesn't seem to be catching on  with any group.

Now the J Frame styled revolvers made by many companies are getting lighter and still chambered primarily in 357 Mag.

I haven't shot the 327 through my mother in laws new taurus yet, but I think that if you stick with the steel guns recoil should be manageable. I've got a S&W 342 and I load it with 135gr gold dots. Those hurt, and that little .38 was the reason I started reloading again, because the 50 round qual we have to do twice a year about killed me.

I have to look at from the point of view that I will carry my 340 PD much more than I will shoot it.

My size makes it difficult for me to conceal carry larger pistols, I would much rather carry a 1911 than this light weight J frame.

I do sympathize with you about the beating that you hands take with a very light pistol, my hands hurt after my practice, which I do at least twice a mont.
